Just found out I can receive TekSavvy where I am. Just posted a follow-up to see if they can give me some idea of what speed that may be. |

| reply to Lexx waiting for my parents to rearrange their phone line then i'll probably sign up with teksavvy, they said someone in the same subdivision as me is getting 5mbps and is on band c for dryloop. i think that'll add up to 10$ cheaper then cogeco on the 200gb/month plan. i just wish i had a way to test my dsl modem before signing up. i know it worked with bell, but i have not used it in forever. |

1 edit | reply to Lexx Ugh... looks like on DSL I'm told I'll get between 1-3Mbps, which isn't exactly stellar. I'm leery to even give that a try. Maybe if I can try to manage my bandwidth better I'll drop to Cogeco's "Crap Plus" 3Mbps tier so they're at least taking LESS of my money.
EDIT - maybe I misunderstood, and there are apparently things to try if I'm not getting the full "Up to 5M" from a company. Perhaps it will be worth trying as a trial. |

@bell.ca | reply to Lexx I had been with Cogeco for 10 years but left last year to teksavvy. I'm moving 3 other cogeco accounts to teksavvy soon too |

| reply to Lexx Well I had all my tv,internet and voip bundled for 5-10 years with cogeco for quite some time, but the rising price increases have made it too costly for this single dad.So I went to back to Bell for basic landline last week and just today I switched to Teksavvy. No effort made by Cogeco to retain my business after all these years as a loyal cutomer. So long Cogeco, you've still got my analogue cable acct............for now. |

| reply to Lexx Looks like Teksavvy confirmed for me "...you should see close to full speeds if not full speeds."
1 down, 2 hurdles to go... They are: i) Wife (PM me if you have constructive suggestions... this forum is not the place) ii) re-wiring so the dry dsl does not require filters for my house. At most, a new line from the demarc to a dedicated modem jack. After that, cable and inet should be dropped and Cogeco can be cancelled after 12 years.
Sorry, Cogeco. Basic might be $28 a month, but switching to Teksavvy and going OTA for my major US Network TV needs is fine by me. |

@sk.ca | Bell will have a hayday with all the money coming from former cogeco customers. When you go to teksavvy, bell will get some profits as well?
Good luck switching

join:2005-03-08 | reply to Lexx Aww man, apparently my line isn't stable enough to hold 5Mbps profile so they kicked me down to 3Mbps. Now I'm only getting about 2.5Mbps. Quite the gap from 10Mbps with Cogeco. Hmm... |

| reply to Lexx I suppose I'm more lucky than some as TekSav can offer me max (.6) 5Mbps speed. For this month though, since today is my Cogeco billing date I downgraded from Pro to Standard. If I can use this service paying the maximum overage and not be suspended I'll be paying the same as Pro before overages and I'll keep it. If not I have a full month to have TekSav replace Cogeco.
Not that it would have made a difference to me at this point but for anyone wondering if Cogeco cares about losing business, they didn't bother to ask why I was downgrading so no, no retention try.
Just want to add that since my first high priced modem, a ZOOM 2400 baud which I still have boxed with the original sticker price I paid of $450.00 I have always been quick to switch to higher speed, always paying whatever it took to have the best: went through all dial-up modems USR released as they were released, from BBS' to the internet, then to my first Western Co-Axial high speed modem at 45K downstream then to Cogeco with, that I recall and not necessarily in order or complete, the Wave, Cgocable and @Home to Cogeco today. Until even a year ago at 16/1, before the last price increase (not the forthcoming one in effect on the 16th) I was okay with what I had. And even when Cogeco began to suspend for abuse I was still okay with what I had, afterall I didn't abuse. But with no new service increases, a rather large second quick price increase and overage charges and possible suspension even after paying what would be around $140 with taxes on standalone Pro, for the first time since I've owned computing devices I have downgraded. All these years later I am finally shifting into reverse and buying lower speed. And in the end it still isnt a money issue, it is a need to take a moral based stand. |

| said by Fireblade :Cogeco used to have good retention, now they don't even care. You'd think a decent business would at least ASK why you were leaving. You can use feedback like that to try and improve your business so that you don't lose customers. It's pretty obvious that Cogeco just doesn't give a sh!t. |
