| Called for a Move, now I'm on a 2 Year Contract? WTF?!?!
I've been with Sympatico for 3 years now - all 1 year contracts for unlimited. Based on a couple of threads (along with one I started when looking to renew), I thought it would be best to stay on the month-to-month unlimited grandfathered plan I was on (paying $57 / month).
well ... I'm moving in the middle of June - so I called Bell and asked for a move to the new house (was ensured nothing would change from the CSR - I have the confirmation order number too) ... to my surprise, I get an email from the "contractsinternet@bell.ca" this morning saying not only did I sign up for 2 year contract (WTF?) but at the regular monthly rate, my modem rental is double ($4 instead of $2 I was paying) and my speed went from 5mbps to 2mbps! oh yeah ... and bye bye unlimited, it's a 20GB bandwidth limit!
there's also the $100 early cancellation fee! wtf?!?! I obviously didn't click on the "I AGREE" button in the email - too bad there isn't a "I DISAGREE" button. is there anything I can do?
I tried calling 310-SURF, but apparently the 'account inquiry' department is not open on the weekend - was looking for some advice (just a little worked up right now). -- -Kayden 1911. |

  oh unique
@videotron.ca
| "Sounds" like a few of things here:
1. You moved to an area that doesn't support more than 2-meg, maybe.
2. The Bell rep took it upon himself to screw you and earn himself a commission by placing you in a long term contract.
3. The rep put you on the low-end DSL tier at his discretion and commission.
Nothing unique about this. This can be found in all forums.
Options are the same as other posts, such as this one. »[Internet] Sympatico support form hell
personally I would use the above fraudulent sales to contact kevin.crull@bell.ca
Put it all in writing to him, show him how Bell reps are putting people in long term contracts with high termination fee's, and TELL him to correct it now.
In addition to this not-so-unique case, ask him when these type of fraudulent sales and fraudulent contracts are going to stop. Tell him there is nothing unique here and all forums are full of this exact same issue.
In addition be sure to confirm what speeds you can get in the area you moved to.
If its too low for your liking, make sure to tell them that since you never agree or even asked for such a ridiculous long term contract with hefty termination fee's, that you expect a bil for ZERO-dollars extra should you decide to leave them (ie no termination fee's of any kind).
I would put it in writing personally... |

Go to other threads with your "unique" problem and quote them to Crull in your correspondence to point out that there appears to be a pattern of widespread fraudulent activity at Bell. Oh by the way, if useless Bell shills appear and advise you to post direct. Ignore them as they just want to sweep this stuff under the rug so you and others think this is "unique" to you. CC Ellen as well she writes about Bell all the time as they are the most complained about company in Canada, »www.ellenroseman.com/ |

  oh unique
@videotron.ca | I agree, write up the letter and CC Ellen Roseman.
Her Email can be found on her webpage.
I forgot about that webpage, good call. Guess that makes 4 forums that shows the uniqueness of Bell Canada.
Any others? |

| Post in the Direct forum.. They may or may not be able to help you, but they have access to systems or personnel that LVL 1 and LVL 3 may not have access to.
Unfortunaetly this will have to wait till Monday. AS POSTED, ALSO SEND THOSE EMAIL'S.

Well said, unforunately I can't comment as moderator action is swift and final ! |

I think it should be pretty clear a long time ago that these sales tactics are encouraged by the management and the Kevin Krull in those shiny towers for them to be so widespread and long lasting.
It is encouraged by management because it increases their numbers and they can get away with it. All they have to do to get away with it is : 1) pretend those are the few rotten apples 2) put in an emergency damage repair team of tech and sales people to do right for the few that complains and then claim how efficient they are at detecting and repairing the wrongful acts of those rotten apples. It is a small price for all the gains from those that dont know better and dont complain.
for the OP : If you have just received the screwing .. errh .. the "change of contract", I think you have 15 to 30 days to cancel a contract and not pay any fee in Quebec. Depends on which province you are in as consumer law is a provincial jurisdiction.
Thats what I did when it happened to me. Cancel. no fee. Move to better pasture. And yes send those letters but just dont expect any remorse from BellEr, it is just business as usual for them.
Change will have to come from outside : courts or market forces. |

| reply to kayden1911 thanks everyone for the great advice ... I've had a bit of time to cool down and think about it ...
but you guys are all right ... am definitely going to be sending some emails - along with a call on Monday morning. I'm definitely canceling on Monday. Will likely go with Teksavvy ... I figure all this trouble isn't worth it ... despite the grandfathered plan. -- -Kayden 1911. |

  hope so
@videotron.ca | If they strike, which i hope they do, and hold out long enough, and with the fight coming out that the net should be an essential service, this may add some weight to both parties. |
|
  not long enough
@cgocable.net
| Last time was over 4 months. Did anyone notice?
How long is long enough for Bell?
Unless you're moving or your telephone machine breaks it would be like a tree fell in the woods and would it make a sound if no one was there to hear it. |

  dont recall
@videotron.ca
| I only recall Videotron striking in QC (at least I think it was them). They had cut some lines if I recall right. Don't recall Bell techs striking here.
But if there is one, They should do it together not one prov and not the other. QC especially with the July 1st national moving day coming. |

  perfect storm

Newco, Subco, Entourage or Bell Technical Solutions was out in the spring of 2005 for over 4 months in Ont. and Quebec. Then Quebec settled first and their guys (part of same union) came over into Ont. and worked. Nice slap in the face.
So if the OP moves June 15 and there is a strike there will be no one to provision the line for Teksavvy or any 3rd party ISPs. Or Bell for that matter.
Here is a quote from one of the techs. today in another website: "Frankly this time around I don't care if we strike. If taking lots of time off and picketing scabs is the game Bell will have me play I'm all up for that, I've been saving up for a while. lol Plus the last strike was a surprise to all of us and for alot of us that was our first strike. Now alot of us are seasoned and experienced and what we can do, what we can't do, and what some people won't get caught doing. And I'm not bluffing. lol
So Bell is almost completely dysfunctional from a consumer perspective this should make for the perfect storm. |

There are still many co personnel who can provision the co/remote. Only question ! Are there enough outside personnel to stop it ?
Enough said |

No. At the rate BTS is usurping Bell employees, including CO work, the question will be moot soon. BTW, that goes for test-board, don't get to comfortable unless your set for a package. |
