| reply to VR38DETT said by VR38DETT :said by Oregonian :said by VR38DETT :Hmm, I am just curious. Would it be okay for me to install this SP2 five-languages version when I currently have the all-36-languages version of SP1 installed? I am afraid I might run into issues. Why don't you get it through Windows Update? That way it should install whatever you need. No worries that way. I would gladly get it through Windows Update if it gives me the choice to do so. Windows Update for some reason isn't pulling the SP2 update for me. It keeps saying that everything is up to date. :| Hi VR38DETT. I've actually done what you were asking; installed the 5-language standalone installation of Vista SP2 on top of the all-language edition of Vista SP1 on my mother's Dell Inspiron laptop and I have not encountered any serious problems.
It's already Tuesday June 23 and I have not seen any signs of the "all language" standalone downloads of Vista SP2 being offered at DLC (download center). probably have to wait another week. the officials at microsoft remain silent on "wave 1 - all language" release of Vista SP2.
For those who do have MSDN or Technet subscription accounts, the "all language" downloads of Vista SP2 were made available only to them on May 22 on the MSDN/Technet subscription downloads pages. |

| reply to iEvolution said by iEvolution :Seems SP2 improves boot time after using it for a week or so..maybe that is just me. Everything else seems to work just fine here. Does seem to boot a little bit faster for me too (vista ultimate x64 here). Other than that I'm not seeing any difference from a user standpoint. Nothing stopped working, and it's as stable now as it was before. I let it take SP2 with WU and it's been ... pleasantly uneventful |

| reply to Kabanos It gave me a scare at first. Because of EVDO internet, I do my heavy downloading at work. I installed SP2 from a USB stick on my dual boot HP Vista/Ubuntu laptop. When it rebooted I got a grub error 17. I wondered what a service pack would be doing messing around with the mbr. I looked around Google for solutions and didn't see anything likely. Then I realized I still had the USB stick attached. Removed it, now all is OK. So far so good, but I haven't had time to play with it much yet. -- RIP my babys Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07 & Beamer 7/24/08, Buttons, Buttons video, Beamer

It seems to have resolved a lot of little quirky network issues on my laptop. Overall I'm pleased with SP2. |

| reply to erpster797 I did the standalone "5 language" version of SP2 and put it on both my notebook and my wife's. Disabled my anti-virus (McAfee) before installation. On both lappy's it was a fairly quick and painless upgrade. Outside of a noticeable amount of greater available disk space, probably because this automatically cleans up after itself, the changes seem pretty minor. Maybe a bit more performance in a couple of areas, but nothing of a "wow" factor. I've only had this for 2 days now though, so I may still run across something. I can't really say too much until I've run it somewhat more.
On the positive side, I have yet to run into any hardware/software compatibility issues (knock on wood!) -- Deeds, not words |

1 edit | reply to scelli said by scelli :said by Cudni :no IE8 in Sp2 Cudni Thanks for the info, Cudni! I have IE8 on Vista SP2. Installed SP2 first, then installed IE8 and both work fine on the Dell Inspiron laptop. IE8 is not included in SP2, though, just updates to Vista's IE7.
So far only the 5 language standalone downloads of SP2 are available to the public at the Microsoft Download Center. The links to the "all language" standalone SP2 downloads are broken because Microsoft has not yet posted the "all language" standalone downloads of SP2. Those I think will be available sometime in June. |

| reply to Matt said by Matt :said by bk9410 :Thank you, sir. BK If you're worried about the large download size, you could always wait until it is distributed through Microsoft Update. The download size should be dynamic at that point and it will only download the specific components you need. (Unless this behavior has been changed from XP to Vista?) I got both 64 & 32 bit SP2 through Windows update a couple days ago... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

| reply to howie said by howie :I was one of the first to install it (a full Vista with SP2 install), and after 3 weeks or so, it's running like a top with not a single issue so far... I'd rercommend that all Vista users grab this and install ASAP. Everything seems "snappier" too, although that may just be my imagination. Howie,
I'm thinking of installing SP2 through WU tonight. Can you tell if it auto installs IE8 or can I still keep IE7 on my system? I would prefer not "upgrading" to IE8 at this time.
TIA! -- The maximum effective range of an excuse is ZERO meters! |
