said by Oregonian :said by VR38DETT :Hmm, I am just curious. Would it be okay for me to install this SP2 five-languages version when I currently have the all-36-languages version of SP1 installed? I am afraid I might run into issues. Why don't you get it through Windows Update? That way it should install whatever you need. No worries that way. I would gladly get it through Windows Update if it gives me the choice to do so. Windows Update for some reason isn't pulling the SP2 update for me. It keeps saying that everything is up to date. :| -- "People say that money isn't the key to happiness, but I always figured if you have enough money, you can have a key made." -Joan Rivers |

Usually these things roll out in phases so servers do not get overloaded. |

Sorry, but it was showing up for me so I assumed it would be for you too. I downloaded and installed no problem. If you can wait a day or so I am sure it will show up in WU for you. |

| reply to Kabanos Is anybody else having the problem with the popup saying Avira is not compatible with SP2.
I am still running Version 8.3 and haven't as yet upgraded to Version 9.0. Would the update to 9 rectify this problem? |

Probably will go ahead and install 9. They had some issues with 9 and I was being sure these were taken care of first. |

| reply to Kabanos I was looking at the amount of used and free space on my hard drive after the installation of SP2 and noticed about a 30GB drop.
Checked my restore points and only had the one for SP2 and Avira installations.
Does the installation of SP2 erase the old restore points to keep from going back to one and messing up the os with old configurations and such? |

| reply to deke40 said by deke40 :Does the installation of SP2 erase the old restore points to keep from going back to one and messing up the os with old configurations and such? how much space is allocated to system restore? maybe the changes were so much that older points were simply removed making up space

| reply to Kabanos As you can see my maxium storage space is over 34GB and I am only using a little over 1.6GB.
The Vista default for a time constraint deletion on restore points is 136 years so you will have a deletion on the maxium storage availability before that.
I usually have about 15 or so restore points available.
It must be as I alluded to before about not contaminating the system with old stuff from the prior to SP2 installation. |

| reply to Kabanos Another thing you will notice is if you had a bunch of hidden updates they are no longer listed.
I don't have Microsoft Word or Office installed so therefore I hide these updates. I noticed a blurb while installing SP2 about installing previous updates but didn't pay much attention to it.
I don't that is affected any thing in my Programs & Features portion of my control panel.
I guess they are just removed from the hidden section of the update configuration. |

| reply to Kabanos Before SP2, there was an issue where some 64 bit systems were showing the wrong amount of "total physical memory" in System information. Example: I have 8 gigs installed, and it would show only 4 gigs under total physical memory, even though it showed 8 gigs under installed physical memory. There was an MS hot fix for this, but it obviously is part of SP2 because it's fixed. |

| reply to DSL_Steve Oddly enough, I knew nothing about this problem until you post. I've had no problems using Smart Security v4 with SP2. I did disable the antivirus while installing SP2, but after the reboot it was re-enabled and is working with no crashes or problems. I would think that SS's antivirus would be the same as NOD32. |
