[colo] Looking for 1U of Rack Space

Hello Folks,

I'm looking for a reliable provider who can provide 1U of space (plus room for my firewall or offers firewall services) and offers usage based billing. I would like a multi-homed provider, preferably with direct peering and transit through Level 3, AT&T, etc. I'm looking for a 100Mbps or GigE port.

Any suggestions?

I have been very happy with SteadFast Networks these past couple of years. Great people over there and an even better network.

Not if the price is right and the NOC engineers are responsive to issues.

That $99 for 800GB + 1U looks PERFECT! They cross-connect to Level 3, AT&T, and Savvis as well. Also, being in Chicago is probably better than being on the East or West coasts. I think we may have a winner!

I've got a few questions for them about expansion before I sign up, so please IM me your company name if you'd like a referral.

Actually Chicago is not a prime location by any means if you are asking for equal connectivity to east vs west coast users. Dallas is equidistantish for both coasts. Chicago generally has to go to the east coast, south to atlanta, west to dallas and beyond. And these are the cheap circuits. There are premium routes that do go directly to other places, but trust me in general the backbone in the US typically looks like a big U with some spokes to hit places in the middle.

My account rep at NAC came in with a much better quote than Steadfast anyway. There is no way I could utilize a server that runs on 1A, so the price jumped dramatically.

Hey Matt,

It sounds like you're probably looking for colocation services within the US. Some other providers you could consider would be, ServerMatrix, ThePlanet, SoftLayer etc. Mind you, their pricing isn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for in most cases.

Good luck on your venture and do let us know who you go with and the outcome.

Cheers!

I've definitely decided to go with NAC. I have a wonderful relationship with them because of my main company so our account rep really hooked me up. There also may be the opportunity to share some of the costs with my other company.

They matched Steadfast, but without the 1A power limitation and less bandwidth.
