iTunes + Airport Express No Longer Works

I have had an Airport Express connected to my main stereo system for several years and used it to play songs from iTunes using both wireless and wired connections on my home LAN.

Worked great until one day I noticed that the name I had assigned the Airport Express for iTunes use was greyed out. The Airport Express is working fine as an access point. I finally reset it and configured it again. It accepts wireless connections and they can get to the Internet. The assigned name for the remote speakers shows up in iTunes on Windows PCs and Macs whether they are connected wirelessly to the Airport or are using the wired ethernet for playback but the name is still greyed out and cannot be selected.

Edit:

This appears to be an iTunes 8 issue. I just put iTunes 7 on a Win2K machine and it allows playback via wired ethernet. All the other machines have iTunes 8 and don't allow it - wired or wireless.

The built-in and on-line help has proven to be pretty useless for this problem. Anybody have any idea what to try?

i just got an AE and hooked it to my stereo last weekend.. I'm using iTunes 8 and have no such issues.
Did you just upgrade to iT8 or something? Did you upgrade the firmware on your Express to see if that helps?

My AE is four or five years old. I didn't find any software updates for it when I checked the Apple site tonight. I don't remember exactly when each machine was upgraded to iTunes 8. The Windows machines were probably first since I use them more often but I first noticed the problem on my G4 PowerBook. I'd say all of them were in the past 4-6 weeks.

Edit:

Checked again and this time found the 6.3 firmware. It took a bit of fiddling but I seem to have the Macs and PCs working with iTunes and the AE again.
