[cable] How does LinkSys CM100 determine provisioned up/down rat

Hi,

I have a LinkSys CM100 cable modem that worked fine until yesterday. Then my broadband suddenly became very slow. SpeedTest.net reported 0.6 to 1 Mbps up and down, and my ping swung wildly from 30 to 500 ms.

My cable company ran some tests, but only noticed the wild ping. They didn't see any other problems from there end and said they'd have to send a technician to my house.

I checked my CM100 admin web page and found that power levels are normal, but the "Provisioned Rate" is set to 300 Kbps up and down. Does the modem get the provisioned rates from the cable company? Does this sound like a modem failure?

I recently upgraded my cable service, so I wonder if they just messed up accidently re-provisioned me at their lowest rate, or maybe they throttled me back because I had hit my usage cap on the old plan.

It seems like the cable company should be able to diagnose this -- but the phone support person didn't even have a way to confirm my provisioned rate.

I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Dave

Sounds like a provision error. What plan did you upgrade to? Example. I have the same modem and on cable internet as well. My plan is 20mb/2mb. I am provisioned for 22400kbps down and 2240kbps up.

They should be able to tell you the provisioned rate. You may want to ask for another tech. You might also try power-cycling the modem and see if it doesn't re-provision at the correct rate.

Thanks korn and phil. Today Cox corrected the provisioning problem.

I paid for 10 mb/2 mb, and today I'm getting about that again.

Thanks again
