Re: Be Careful of Vonage America

I can't have the money owed to Vonage to come out of my checking/savings account. I had to give them my credit card number. I find it strange that the OP was able to have his payment to come out of the bank.

I guess that MasterCard and Visa don't issue ATM/Check cards in Canada. In the US, many (if not most) banks issue ATM/Check cards to checking account holders that can be used for any transaction just like a credit card except that the charge goes directly to your bank acount.

Maybe Visa/MC do offer those ATM cards here in Canada, I have a credit card and an ATM card so never needed to enquire about them.

If your ATM card has a Visa or MC logo, it can be used with Vonage.

The Mastercard (Visa)/Chequeing Card was available in Canada a long, long time ago. This was at the time that stores only took credit cards, money or cheques. Then came the credit card cheque debit card, but 3 or 4 years later, interac came around, and everyone could use the Debit Card to make purchases everywhere, so no need for the credit card debiting your chequeing account anymore. That was a mouth full. Anyway, I am not sure why Vonage and companies like Sirius have issues using Canadian banks, but I gather they think the credit card thing is a lot easier.
