Re: Westell port question With some routers, an unforwarded port simply shows as a closed port. With others it shows as stealth.
Once a port is forwarded to a computer internal to your LAN, that computer is now in charge. If that computer happens to be running a firewall that drops all packets for that port, it will show as stealth. Otherwise it will show as closed unless there is a program listening on that port (when it shows as open).
If the port is forwarded to a non-existent computer on your LAN, it will show as stealth.
That's just the way TCP works.
I'm not sure what you are looking for. A port cannot show as open, unless there is software listening on that port and accepting connections on that port. That's pretty much the definition of "open". -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.10 |
