| Higher number of calls going to fast busy signal?
Anyone else experiencing a higher incidence of outgoing calls failing with a fast busy?
Starting this past weekend I have been experiencing both this problem and a couple of inbound calls going to the fail-over number.
Longtime customer on rock-solid Verizon FiOS 20/5 with my own router (NOT the Verizon ActionTec) ... nothing has changed at my end and prior to this I have had about 6 months of good service. |

1 edit | Hadn't noticed it. Just got off phone with wife, called and got one. Called back worked. Tried several other calls all completed.
Galvatron server.
Edit: Call that didn't complete never made it to CP. Everything else is already showing up. |

A fast busy on an outbound call generally occurs when your device thinks its registered but our end has lost communication with it. Any idea if anything has changed firmware wise or anything on your VZ equipment? I'm not familiar with whether they push updates out or not.

| Thanks for the reply.
No firmware has changed on either the router (a TrendNet TEW-621BRP, the model I have been using since becoming a VT customer) or the LinkSys PAP2 (older model sent to me by VT back in 2005).
Since this seems isolated to my service and not system-wide I will try to capture some more information about the problem if it continues. |

| reply to v35_pilot I had one on Saturday. Called the wife with outgoing call routing (cool feature, BTW).
When she answered, no one was there and my end went to a fast busy. Being female, she couldn't wait for me to try again and she called me, which went to the 2nd line because I was starting to dial her up again.
My call did go into the logs. Made another call to her later in the weekend the same way and it worked fine the first time.
So there is another datapoint for you. |

1 edit | reply to v35_pilot I've been getting some fast busy on outgoing. happens before a data connection is established. Second or third try normally works. But, I was switched to hightower because I was losing audio during call waiting/3-way calling. When VT switched me to hightower is when my fast busy started again (like the old servers before the switch to grimlock). My wife thinks its because she dials too fast. |

| reply to v35_pilot yep, i've been getting them on 7 and 11 digit dialing. the only way around it for me was to append a # at the end of the dialing sequence. no update on my ATA firmware, nor my FiOS router. this all started this past weekend. i'm on hightower, fwiw... -- NukedGallery.net TheMolavis.com |

| reply to v35_pilot Experiencing this problem again in full force, but I noticed that it seems to be happening with exclusively with seven-digit dialing. On a whim when I add the pound sign (#) to the dial attempt the outgoing call is always successful.
I have not changed my dialplan in a few years, but here it is if something seems amiss:
Also, it looks as if I am using the Galvatron server. |

2 edits | You could try changing it to Change 555 to your area code. See if sending VT 11 digit number helps.
Edit. Unless I am mistaken you can't do 10 digit dialing. Edit2: Looks like you are blocking international dialing. You could just remove the entries. |

1 edit | said by dcurrey :Edit2: Looks like you are blocking international dialing. You could just remove the entries. I kinda like having international call blocking on. Why do you suggest removing it?
Some new questions have arisen: Could my issue be a DTMF (touchtone) recognition issue?
It seems as if the speed at which I am dialing may be causing some of the DTMF/tones to be missed. The fast busy, therefore, may be a result of the adapter timing out while waiting for all the seven or 11 digits to be entered. When I would purposely slow my dialing way down (extend the push on each number), the call always went through. Does this sound logical?
If so, is it possible that changes over the last month at VT have affected how these inadvertently short tones are recognized (or not recognized)?
edit: Are there adapter settings that impact how the tones are interpreted?
Again, since nothing has changed at my end for more than a year (including how fast I dial), I have to start by considering that some innocuous VT change may have affected how the length of the tones are being interpreted.
Thoughts? |

| If not in the dial plan the ata shouldn't be able to dial international call anyway. You have strings for both allow and disallow. First match wins.
As far as the phone dialing to fast thats possible. Only way for sure is to watch the ata status page. Or setup logging and see what you get. |

2 edits | reply to v35_pilot I've been getting 'fast busy' on 7 digit dialing (~30% occurrence). But I think it has been my dialplan as I've been making frequent changes. The first attempt does not go to call logs. Odd that it always works on second try.
DTMF: of 3 ATAs, never has DTMF been a dialing issue, only issues have been with navigating automated systems once connected. On my Sipura ATA, under the Regional Tab: DTMF Playback Level: -14 DTMF Playback Length:: .1 These were not the default settings.
edit: on Hightower |
