Re: Good said by RayW:The amendments were not meant for the states. The 13 states/colonies had the amendments written to limit the power of the new union, not the power of the states. One small item that most people tend to forget about now-a-days. One of the Reconstruction Amendments changed that. 1 edit | The 14th Amendment has to be applied (incorporation doctrine) to the states specifically by a Supreme Court ruling, I believe. It doesn't automatically happen. For instance, many amendments have been incorporated for a long time, but the 2nd was only recently incorporated with the recent Heller decision. |
