While not a very scientific test (location not listed, time of day, repeatability during day vs night, etc) it does show that it is possible

But it does look like AT&T fares well in the testing endgadget did. »www.engadget.com/2009/05/26/enga···america/
To check download, upload and latency measurements, we used DSLReports' Flash 8 speed test, which has become somewhat of an unofficial standard over the years. We tested six separate locations a half dozen times, throwing out the outliers and coming up with an average that we felt was truly representative of our experience.

| I read that yesterday as well and I wasn't surprised that Verizon finished last. I was surprised that they were so close to Sprint though ... my Verizon EVDO connection felt absolutely GLACIAL compared to my Sprint EVDO card. Although my speed test and latency results frequently matched what they reported, there was a definitely perceived difference in speed, although I was never able to put my finger on what it was. |

Here are laptop card results... Speed Test Statistics - dslreports.com
Samples Down Upload 113 747 369 Sprint Mobile Broadband: 105 727 353 Verizon Wireless 28 622 374 Cingular: US mobile provider (ATT)
These results change all the time though. No provider consistently leads and all are sometimes on top. Wireless data is fickle.
ATT also misleads with their map. They show 2g/3g coverage combined. They have much less national 3G coverage than Sprint/Verizon. |

1 edit | reply to xenophon I'll agree with you on that there is no provider will consistently lead in every market across the country.
AT&T's 3g map shows 3g vs. 2g - but they do have less national 3G coverage than Sprint and Verizon, but more than T-Mobile.
Both Sprint and AT&T are pretty decent where I am in SoCal. I've 'peaked' out at ~1.2Mbps on Treo 800w (EVDO Rev A). I haven't used data in months on HTC Tilt, as work pays for the Treo. |

True, is the same for all though so factoring it is still mostly negligible. If you average all the speeds over 500Kbps, they still all come out to be about the same, with one carrier on top one day, another carrier another day.
Wireless depends on so many factors that are not in control of the carrier. |

| That's why most carriers state 'average' speeds 500-800kbps All I care that is a) it works WHERE I need it b) it works WHEN I need it c) it doesn't cost a truck load of $$$ d) ToS doesn't turn a service into a useless item (eg. I'd like to use Skype) -- Canada = Hollywood North |
