Your new England get-a-way

Where is your favorite place to go in the area? I haven't been in awhile, but I love to go to Mt. Katadan here in Maine. Good trails to hike, for either beginners, or experienced with more challenges.

I hiked a 10 mile trail to the top of the mountain with some Irish friends, and it was SOOOO much fun. It took the whole day to hike that trail, but in the end it was so great to view the area from the highest point in Maine above the clouds.....

There is another place I like that over looks the coves of Rockland and Camden that is very pretty. Especially in the fall with the colors.

Other then Mt. Katahdin...
The second place I mentioned in Camden is Camden Hills you mentioned.... those are the ones I am talking about in my post.
There are so many wonderful places to overlook the waters and/or just enjoy the many different sceneries the Hills have to offer.

I make great effort to go in the Fall for foliage colors.

I haven't been on a get-away for too many years but I'd like to go to the Maine shore - a place near rocks and a lighthouse. Somewhere where I can take pictures, enjoy the sea air, walk around the town (without a million tourists ruining it).

I was looking up a coastal trip for a friend and the Cat's over to Nova Scotia look like fun - if you can stand at the bow of the boat

A yup, a Maine shore drive is a nice trip. I'm missing the usual drive to Camden this year. Plenty o' lighthouses to see along the way, nevermind the Lighthouse Depot in Wells and LH Museum in Rockland.
Oh, BTW Sweet Witch, you'll be the tourist there. Be nice to the locals. I'm on a busman's holiday, researching being a tourista.

We had a GREAT day yesterday...stayed a little "closer to home"...(hubby was on call for his job)...went to Abbott's Lobster in the Rough in Noank/Mystic CT, and then did some wandering around the shops in downtown Mystic (Not the shopping center by the aquarium)...it wasn't Maine, but nice just the same...far enough away, but close enough if the phone rang!

The spouse and I enjoy a weekend in Northampton, MA. Walking and shopping... a nice dinner.... hot-tubbing at East Heaven.... ice cream at Herrell's.... a soft bed at the Hotel Northampton.... Haven't done the whole shebang in years, though. We were there for an evening a little over a month ago, and that was nice. Got an hour in a roof tub on a walk-in - Fate was smiling on us that day.

That's a nice hotel, the area is great too (as long as you like hippies).

I don't think I've ever seen more Prius' in my life then the few times I went there last summer!

We have a certain amount of "hippie-ness" ourselves, so that suits us. Yes, Noho is very crunchy, but also mellow, which is a nice change from life in the big city. Last time we were there, we were too busy relaxing to count Priuses, or maybe we just didn't notice because there are a lot of hybrids (and Smart cars) here in the PRC, too, and we're used to them.

I lived in Inman Sq for a year, then Kendal Sq -- so I know what you mean

Now I live in the land of pickups... it seems like every other person in Stoneham is some sort of a contractor.

I don't have to go anywhere! I live in paradise! Cape Cod has no traffic!

Well, it's nice here, the fish are running and I try to be nice. I've had some great food already this season. I hope you can all enjoy the Cape.

Now the Chamber of Commerce will take the gun from my head!

I would love to, but it's not in the cards this year. I'd love to feel the sea breeze on my face and take lots of pictures.

Those damned CoCers! Anything to get the tourist dollars!
