Im on the 16/2 plan with comcast been using utorrent to get my Legal torrent! No matter how many Seeder are there am always capp Out @ 750kb, The torrent start off around 1.2m and slowly come down to 750kb and stay there.
When using firefox to down large file on a FTP it's steady @ 1m.

Re: [Connectivity] Throttle on torrent?

Comcast does not throttle downloading of torrents. It sounds more like your upload is set to high. Make sure your upload speed limiter is set no higher than 220KiloBytes/sec (80% of your upload). Any higher and you can hurt your download speed. TCP acknowledges that the packet got there, so it requires a little return bandwidth, because of this anything higher than 80% of your upload and the upstream gets saturated and the TCP acknowledgment can't get through, so the stream of packets stops until it does. I personally would give yourself a little more headroom and set it to 215 KiloBytes/sec and you should be fine. Try that and let us know.

I know that Comcast DID deploy sandvine to drop most bit torrent traffic entering and leaving their network. I understand they also lied to customers about it and got into a bunch of legal issues.

Are you saying they stopped this? Or am I completely wrong? I decided against using them and stopped paying attention.

I switched from copper dsl, to uverse dsl and hate the static ip offerings.. I would switch to comcast in a second if I was certain they dont throttle or block Bit-Torrent.

On a side note: A friend of mine downloaded an episode of House that she forgot to DVR and got a cease and desist letter from comcast about it. It was legit, I saw it.

I find that silly, since she HAS cable TV AND a DVR.. and pays for both of them, yet she got spanked for downloading a TV episode.. I don't consider that stealing, like downloading software or Music would be.

Why has everyone failed to see that he is only getting 8Mbit speeds? He said he only gets 1MB with firefox. I think you need to make sure you are on the 16/2 plan. Call comcast or check your modem logs.

Edit: you might want to make sure that your torrent program is set to allow more then 750... nvm you start at 1.2mb was worth a shot

I tend to agree with Drizew. Check with comcast and see if your actually on the 16/2 plan. You might even be able to see in your modem logs. »192.168.100.1
Check for a config file. Usually ends with .cm i think. Post back what it is and we can tell. The high download speeds might just be powerboost.

That's the same modem as I am using, and the same version of firmware:

Software Version: SB5100-2.3.7.0-GA-00-NOSH
Hardware Version: 3
MIB Version: II
GUI Version: 1.0
VxWorks Version: 5.4

The config file is displayed among my error log entries:

2009-05-26 13:00:03 6-Notice E102.0 SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_m_sb5100_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm

The above is the Blast 16/2 file.

Try clicking on the *Configuration* tab, then the *Reset all defaults* button, then the *Restart Cable Modem* button.

After doing this, it may take a bit longer than normal for the modem to fully re-sync, but this is what I have to do to get the config file displayed there.
