Re: Off topic cap talk

If I pay $140 just for the internet, I expect to use it to my full desire.

So long as your full desired use doesn't unfairly limit the other paying customers on the same segment from getting their usage in.

That's the reality of shared services.

I don't think you'll find truely unlimited in that price range.*
while at $140 you are paying a share towards the plant expansion capital cost and something towards bandwidth/useage, you do have to realize that even if the providers usage cost is small per unit, it does add up quickly.
People that expect their overall internet/video/phone monthly costs to be greatly reduced while getting more "free" stuff will probably be disappointed to learn, that as CATV income disappears those costs will be transfered to the HSI side.

* FIOS and a few cable providers who have not yet jumped on the cap/overage bandwagon (because they are either attempting to grow or maintain market share/ penetration.) eventually will.
Like everyone else, at some point they too will have to address capital cost repayment and useage based cost recovery.

Re: Off topic cap talk

Right..that's why OOL is now offering 100/15 UNCAPPED using the same technology Comcast is.

The cap is bs and everybody knows it.

You do know how small CV's footprint is don't you? in a highly competive market area.
they were one of those CATV operators I mentioned, now or soon facing fios directly have choosen to scrifice profit to maintain market share.
If you want to get an idea how well investors (you know the people that loan the company money for the improvments you seek?) feel about that look up CVC's stock price over the last couple years.

The size of the network doesn't matter..its the technology powering the network that matters, and OOL is using the same stuff Comcast is.

A OOL neighborhood is no different than a Comcast neighborhood on D3. Comcast just prefers to keep charging its users for less than what they COULD be.

For you people paying $140 for 50/10 I hope that Comcast lube is working out for you.

If you don't like Comcast's deal, order a T3 from your phone company. Telco DS3 prices start at $2000/mo. HTH

For that price I could move to somewhere where I can get FiOS.

I do, every month. I average 700-850 GB/month, but I also have business class internet. I have had that usage for about 1 year and Comcast as not said a word so its within usage limits for the business class packages.

Back on topic... I wonder what the upload speeds would be on the new 100mbps package? This might be when they introduce upstream channel bonding...

Re: Off topic cap talk

The 250GB cap is for residental accounts. Thats why Comcast recommends users who use more then that have a business account.

Yes, please.

There is, surprisingly enough, a thread for discussion of this cap thingy. ---> »The Bandwidth Limits/Congestion Management Topic
