Re: [Modem] Speedport to Zyxel modem upgrade failure?

I found a very nice writeup from earlier that explains what I was asking about originally, getting switched from frame relay to ATM.

»[Modem] New Modem, Frame Relay?

Helps to know what to look for, thanks for the help

The Fujitsu/Orkut Speedport is a Frame Relay DSL Modem and only works with Frame Relay DSLAMs.

The ZyXEL DSL Modems are all ATM DSL Modems and only work with ATM DSLAMs.

Stats are available from the Fujitsu, but they are only seen by using Telnet.

I've had an old Speedport modem for many years, and partially due to an inability to upgrade my speed to even a promised 1.5Mb connection, I decided to try upgrading to a Zyxel P-660R-D1. (horror stories about hours of support calls not included).

Hooking up the new Zyxel produces no DSL light. I can (and am) connected fine on the line with my old Speedport, but the Zyxel doesn't seem to be able to find the connection. I've tried resetting the line in the modem setup, with no improvement. The modem will not connect. (direct connect to the computer, no router to interfere)

Tech support...was the typical script. They didn't suggest the line reset from the Zyxel menu, just 'no light, modem is broken'. I understand that this is a possibility, but it seems remote considering the modem is new.

Since I can't use the old modem to determine any line stats, and the new one can't see the line to test it...am I missing any steps to try to resolve this?
