Re: [Mobile] Are there any un-caped mobile internets? U realize he said verizon....they do have a 5GB cap....not 20! |

me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | Wasn't he asking about Mcom? And just stated that verzion has a 5GB cap, or did I misunderstand what he was asking? |

1 edit | I don't think the anon is the one talking about millinecom |

 | reply to me1212 Yes i was asking about Mcom-what is it, how can i get it because a 20gb cap is alot better that a 5gb. because we just got this card so we still have time to send it back, if we have to get something new from Mcom. the card speed was like 100-140ms ping and i live like 10 plus mile from town. download was 800 and upload was 350 average i would say give or take |

And did you already check to see if there r any fixed WISPs? The ping for them will be better. |

| reply to Tyler07 MCom defaults to Verizon's network unless you can't get a Verizon signal. Then they'll send you a Sprint card.
Not sure about 20GB of usage...a friend was told to scale back when he's using 15GB I believe. 10GB is doable though from what I hear. At any rate, a soft cap is a whole lot better than 5¢/MB.
So if you're using Verizon right now MCom would be no different network-wise. Just different customer service and a more lax cap policy.
By the way, you should check out »evdotips.blogspot.com if you plan on using your EvDO for awhile; lots of great info there. |

 | reply to me1212 yes we do have wisp around but they said they are full at the moment, until they get more broadband to support there customers. and i agree with iansltx, the soft cap is better than what we have. but how much would xbox live take in MB say in halo 3 one day for like 3 hours? and thanks 4 the information |

| Gaming, as far as actual gameplay is concerned, doesn't take up a ton of bandwidth. I'm not a gamer but from what I've gathered 100 kbps is a liberal estimate for gameplay, though downloading maps, updates, etc. might hurt you. For three hours you're looking at 100MB if that. Gaming isn't what'll kill you, though 5GB isn't much to work with.
If I might ask, who's the WiSP in question? Maybe you can work out a deal with them so they'll install service for you if you promise to limit usage until they get more bandwidth in. Maybe set a number at 10GB, and track it with a router flashed with DD-WRT or Tomato (you can get a Linksys WRT54GL for $60ish, versus more for a similarly functional EvDO router). Just a thought. |

 | Well my mom called today and mcom has a 5gb cap so i guess i'll stay with verizon. |
|
me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | Verizon charges you like $250(I think) for each GB over 5GB you use, Mcom does not.. |
|
 | yeah thats true i guess. um do u know how to hook up this connection (from my verizon card) to my xbox 360 to play online. we still might change verizon to mcom |
|
me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | I don't know dude, sorry. Are there any card slots on ur 360?
And BTW Mcom uses a USB modem not a card. |

| reply to Tyler07 @me1212 Not $250 anymore. Just $51 (5¢ per MB). Still ridiculously expensive, but not fatal.
@Tyler07 You'll need a router that can handle an EvDO card. »www.evdoinfo.com/ has info on that. Or Millenicom. Though the CreadlePoint routers are the standard for EvDO-to-WiFi at this point. |
|
 | reply to Tyler07 You can hook your verizon up to a desktop or laptop and then send it out to your xbox. That is how I got my brothers setup now.
For a truely un-capped fixed wireless isp I would checkout accel-networks. It is a bit pricey, but I have had zero issues with them. ($149.00 per month). I use several gigs per month through them. |
