Lincolnshire, IL | Unless ATT does things a lot differently.... with HSPA deployments than their efforts with 3G, I'll have more confidence in VZ's upgrades. Honestly, I don't know what ATT did to cripple 3G deployments here, but it's frustrating to have significantly better 3G experiences elsewhere (UK, Ireland, even Mexico) than here in the states.

Not in IL, but within the last week here in RI and in northern CT they have lit up 3G in a larger area. I now get 3G coverage for 99% of my 50 minute commute.

Lincolnshire, IL | Re: Unless ATT does things a lot differently.... It's good they're expanding coverage. My beef isn't so much with coverage, than with usage/capacity issues. I know my home market (Chicago) is certainly part of the problem, but I've traveled enough (domestically and internationally) to know 3G deployments overseas seem to provide a much better user experience than what AT&T has deployed here. Lower latency for sure, but also much quicker initial connection/authentication times for data services.

AT&T chose the 'cheaper' yet more complicated method of deploying 3G - reuse spectrum.
T-Mobile's 3G use 'new' AWS spectrum
VZW's LTE and AT&T's LTE will use 'new' spectrum.
UK, Ireland, Mexico and most other countries either have abundant spectrum to use, or have purchased 'new' spectrum in 2100MHz, so that there was no/little impact.
Since AT&T doesn't have enough spectrum in some markets - users have suffered - especially when iPhone or 3G data cards make use of what they've paid for. | |

VZ corporate culture is going to throw more $ at it than ATT's "investor confidence [returns]" culture that created Uverse and "don't upgrade it till Apple threatens to terminate the iPhone contract" upgrades. | |
