@optonline.net
What router (with dd-wrt) are you using with Ultra?

I just had Ultra installed and getting max speeds connected directly to the modem. Once I put the router in place I drop down to 14M down and 13M up.

I'm currently using a Linksys WRT54G-GL-GS with DD-WRT v24-sp1.

that router will make you waste your 100mbit....
The firmware version used was v23 SP2. The following values
apply both to the WRT54G v3.1 and to the GL, unless specified explicitly:

Ethernet switch alone:
> 70 Mbit/s

NAT:
30 Mbit/s (GL), 21 Mbit/s (G v3.1)

PPPoE + NAT:
23Mbit/s (GL)

RP-PPPoE + NAT:
≈ 6 Mbit/s (GL)

WLAN (WPA2) :
24 Mbit/s

PPPoE + NAT + WLAN (WPA2):
16Mbit/s at least (GL, see below)

RP-PPPoE + NAT + WLAN (WPA):
4.6 Mbit/s (GL)

Notes:

- These are throughput values.

- The difference in NAT speed between the Gv3.1 and the GL is,
most likely, due to different CPU types: BCM47xx vs. BCM53xx

- "PPPoE" applies to the default (Linksys) PPPoE driver.
Note that the open-source RP-PPPoE is much slower,
because of heavy CPU usage and/or implementation flaws.

- WLAN throughput of 24 Mbit/s was the maximum value obtained
under optimum conditions. To my experience, typical values are
16...20 Mbit/s for a "good" connection running at a nominal rate of
54 Mbit/s.

- PPPoE + NAT + WLAN (WPA2):
See
and other posts in that forum, which confirm a speed of 16 Mbit/s
at least.

- CPU load should not differ between WPA and WPA2; I have just
indicated what was used for testing.

Perhaps the Linksys WRT600N, which has been discontinued but can still be found, will do the trick. I like its specs, and seems (thus far) to have the most active user base amongst the current crop of DD-WRT'able wireless N gigabit routers (or so it seems from the posts on DD-WRT's forums).
Its dual band gigabit, with 16MB flashable RAM - able to run the Mega build if necessary.
There's been lots of very recent work being done by Eko and Brainslayer, the main developers of DD-WRT, especially in the last 2 months and especially on the dual band routers. The most recent builds seem quite stable and seem to take advantage of most of the features of these relatively cutting edge routers.

Edit: I tried several times to link to the current Eko build, for some reason its not working.

There is also the wrt610n which is basically an upgraded wrt600n.

It supports dd-wrt also but is in beta.

I have the wrt610n. it has all gigabit ports even on the wan side.

I don't think that others would call it an "upgraded wrt600n". The WRT600N was Broadcom based, therefore enabling pretty straightforward open source coding from the existing code base. Also, I believe the 610's DD-WRT build is in a much earlier beta phase (less functionality available).

Edit: Actually it looks like you're right - this review give a peek at its innards.

yeah its pretty much an upgraded wrt600n. The dd-wrt build while in beta still works on the router. I was using it for a while but dd-wrt on dual band routers doesnt support FULL speed yet of 802.11n .

From what I was reading of Eko's posts on the DD-WRT forums, along with other posts and my own observations, DD-WRT is using the same wireless drivers that the OF uses (line for line). I use the latest Eko builds on my WNDR3300 (dual band Netgear), and both wireless channels are performing at least as well as the OF did in the brief time I used it. In fact the OF gave me more problems - it refused to connect with a wireless bridge that I had set up on an old WRT54Gv5 (DD-WRT).

I took the recommendations and picked up the Linksys WRT610N.

I loaded dd-wrt.v24-12250_mega-wrt610n.bin, svn12250.

I'm now getting around 93MB down and 14.5M up.

That sounds good. It seems you found the latest builds too - 12250 was released TODAY!

We should get the mod to put a new what routers work with Ultra section in the faqs.

I will pm him and ask.
