Re: Give me true metered billing.

Did you forget sarcasm tags or are you serious? Because I think that pricing structure would be just fine,
I'm serious. I use 1TB to 2TB a month on average. A low month of 1TB would cost me $100 to $150 plus the $10 to $15 connection fee.
I currently pay $90 a month for a FIOS 50/20 tier.
I think 10 cents to 15 cents per GB is twice what I would even consider.

1-2 TB/month is in no way an average amount of usage. I pay .50 cents per GB in a high quality data center which doesn't have last mile expenses but also doesn't have the economy of scale that a large ISP does. If I wanted 1TB of transfer, I'd pay close to $1,000 dollars a month for bandwidth alone.

So $.10-$.15 is already artifically low and although it would raise your pricing (which sucks) the proposed changes would very likely lower the average bill for most consumers.

50 cents per GB is artificially high. It doesn't cost anywhere close to that price for them to provide it.

It may. They are multi-homed and have multiple redundant connections to each carrier. I agree they have ample profit built into that however. But every company (including the Evil ISP's ™) are allowed to make money.

My point was more that .$10 to .$15 per GB is an extremely fair price. The large ISPs can still profit - although not to the tune of the thousands of a percent that they'd like - light users would pay much less and heavy users (unfortunately, that means you) would pay more. I don't like metered billing any more than the next guy, but if it's going to be implemented, let's implement it properly which means if you're consuming 1-2TB a month, you have to pay more than someone using 1-2GB per month. They should not (in a usage based billing model) subsidize you.

I agree it would cost me about $60-$90 for 500GB internet. $10-$15 and $0.10-$0.15 per GB. If any ISP wants metered billing IMHO it should be like this: $10 for 5m/2.5 $15 for 10/5 and $0.10 per GB. a price that would actually make light users pay less and heavy pay more, not the lies they are giving us now.

It will never happen, but I think if the industry wants to move to metered billing, then there shouldn't be speed tiers at all. If I'm paying you by the byte, why should I be limited to 2Mbps? Of course, in practice, that would allow one person to bring a DOCSIS network to its knees, so it's a laughable hope at best.

.50 $ per Gigabyte is extremely expensive. Hosting services with everything you described above generally cost about 15.00 $ /per month with 6,500 + GB's transfer per month.

You can also get unlimited transfer for not too much more.

Actually I have never seen one that expensive before.

(costs are more of course if you want a private dedicated server, but that is besides the point.)

The quote above also has a redundant network, and 99.99 % up-time.

Don't see your point, your simply paying many times too much
