| [Vista] No internet access.
I originally posted in the SCU forum but I'm not getting any responses and I don't think it's a security issue anyway. Here's the deal. I removed some really nasty spyware/adware from my step daughter's laptop. After I finished I have no internet access over ethernet. The HJT and MBAM logs look clean. I can log onto my router but according to Network connections I only have local access, no internet access. Any ideas?

2 edits | I would suspect that removal of the malware has damaged Winsock.
The following MS KB article has steps to try to determine if Winsock2 is corrupted:
»support.microsoft.com/kb/811259
At the bottom of the article are steps for recovering from Winsock corruption and repairing/resetting Winsock in Windows Vista. |

When hovering over it with the mouse it says "limited connectivity" Which I would guess is the same as local only in normal boot.
EDIT. The yellow icon went away but it still says local only.

Also, is there anything logged in the Event Viewer that may be related?
Can you open the Hosts file and see if it has been modified? |

The RasClient error says "Cold={44393C1A-23F-40F4-9D86-C150352DCC6F} The user(pc name here) dialed a connection named Broadband connection which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 0." 0 is an invalid number or parameters. This service takes two startup parameters.
The MSSQL error says "0 is an invalid number or parameters. This service takes two startup parameters."
The event system error report is quite long. The last line says the same as the 2 above. -- The circumstances of life, the events of life, and the people around me in life, do not make me the way I am, but reveal the way I am. Dr. Sam Peeples.

Done that but here's a new twist. It's telling me to plug into the network adapter "Local Area Connection *16". Never saw that before and have no idea what that is. -- The circumstances of life, the events of life, and the people around me in life, do not make me the way I am, but reveal the way I am.
