| New Scanner
While slightly O/T for Ham's - this is still about the best forum I could find for this...
Picked up a new scanner last week, to replace my trusty, but non-digital Bearcat. Ended up with a RadioShack Pro-106.
I was worried about the new "Object Oriented Programming" model... But after consulting some other forums, ended up getting the Win500 software to program it with.
Wow - how easy, and how cool!
I can't believe how easily I got the trunking loaded, and how well the unit pulls in both analog and digital signals...
Can't recommend this unit highly enough!

| Scan while working |
The Object Oriented memory is great. No waste anymore! I would really like more than 20 banks (or what is called 'groups' now). I have learned to program it up around this limitation. But I am still going to by a newer Uniden for my car. Win500 is the best software I have used. And I have tried most of them. Actually bought a copy of Butel's stuff last year at Hamvention when I bought my GRE 500.
Unfortunately I don't think the Pro 106 allows for the best feature of Win500. That is the controllable streaming client. I am sitting at work with 4 counties of listening at my control. I also use the remote client for Window Mobile. Fun stuff for sure! |

| Yep, I think you will be good. I don't know why I thought the RS versions of the scanner didn't work with the control. Maybe I was thinking of different models. Sounds like you are set. Don't know if you have been there yet.. but »radioreference.com is a must visit site for you or anyone into scanning! Have fun. |

| reply to LazMan OK - the remote scanner access works good across the LAN - now to play with my firewall, and see if I can get it from the outside...
And yes, I'm a member at RadioReference... Never would have gotten the scanner programmed so quickly without it! |

sabersaw Premium join:2001-08-21 Dayton, OH | reply to LazMan I would recommended a real obscure port since there is no way to authenticate with the software. That plus dynamic DNS service to always find your way home.
RR is great and worth every penny for automatic database import. |
