| Bridged 2Wire 2701HG-B and Linksys WRT54-G
I am having a strange issue hopefully someone can help me. I admit right off the bat I am a newb.
My sisters home and her buisness are 130 feet away from one another. At her buisness she bought a package of DSL from AT&T that they said would work in their home as well with this wireless router. You know and I know that at 130ft away thats not possible but my computer illiterate sister just believed the tech guy.
Anyway, I told them I would run and trench an ethernet cable from the buisess (2wire) to the house and connect it to a WRT54-G to cover the house. Which has been done. I ran a long ethernet cable from the 2wires 1 output port at the buisness to the internet port of the WRT54-G at the house.
To make trips back and forth from one router to another quicker I decided to bring the WRT54-G into the buisness and use a different ethernet cable. I established a wireless connection with my laptop. Then I changed the 3RD IP address value to 192.168.5.1. Released and reloaded with success.
The values stuck in the status page and I ran a speedtest. I then double checked the setup making sure I was indeed connected to the Linksys and not the 2wire. I was. Everything was exactly how I wanted it, the only thing I'd be doing differently from the setup in the buisness to the house is switching the ethernet cable to the one I ran to the house, which I tested and works.
At this point I disconnected the WRT54-G and brought it and my laptop back over to the house. Connected everything and no connection. I even repeated the release/renew several times and released and renewed the DHCP as well... no dice.
PLEASE NOTE. There were only TWO things I changed from the previous working setup. The long ethernet cable, which works... and the distance of the WRT54-G from the 2wire. Also if I run a wired connection using the WRT54-G and the laptop I get internet in the house. Just no wireless.
My Questions:
Will the linkysys WRT54-G and the 2Wire communicate if they are turned on in the same room?
If I deactivate the wireless mode of the 2wire will that make things easier?
Why else might this setup work in the buisness but not at home?

More Info:
I have the 2wire in PPPoE mode and the WRT54-G in auto DHCP mode. I was told to basically invert the two but when I put the 2wire in static IP mode I get disconnected and thats that. |

Don't use the linksys internet port
Use a lan port on the linksys to make the connection to a 2wire lan port |

Dont use the linksys Internet port? Aren't the other ports output only ports?
Is there anything else I need to tell the linksys if I want it to receive internet through one of these ports?

That has no bearing on what you're trying to do
When you configure the linksys like I described you are just extending the lan of the 2wire to another area
A wired or wireless connection to the linksys is the same as connecting to a 2wire lan port |

It didn't work... On the linksys I turned off the AUTO DHCP and tried putting in static addresses that worked in the buisness. I also tried PPPoE with no success. I rebooted the router after each try.
On my At&t 2wire broadband GUI page I have:
DSL Line selection: Auto
ATM Circuit Identifier: VPI: 8 VCI: 35
ATM Encapsulation: Bridged LLC
ATM PVC Search: Enabled
I have the 2wire set to PPPoE |

| When you get the internet connection working on the 2wire then the connection will work in the house.
There was no need to set "static addresses"
The 2wire lan dhcp server will take care of all lan computer ip addresses
In your first post you said "I ran a speedtest" so the 2wire was setup and connected to the internet.
All you needed to do to have internet in the house was:
Connect a ethernet cable to a 2wire lan port and a lan port on the linksys
Disable the linksys lan dhcp server
That's it no other changes were needed |

In my first post not only was the 2wire set up and connected to the internet but I was connected using the WRT54-G as well. I ran the speed test through my laptop which was connected to the Linksys.
When I had it set up here at the business I was plugged from the 2wire lan into the WRT54-G internet port. Then I was wirelessly connected to the WRT54-G (I am sure) with my laptop. The WRT54-G while connected and working in the business was in DHCP mode.
I don't understand and would love to... why it is that it works in the business... but when I bring it back to the house it doesn't and I have to change these settings?
The set-up is exactly the same... the only difference is the Ethernet cable which I tested and works. |

My guess is the cable from the business to the house is bad?
If that cable is good you should be able to see the 2wire pages from the house and the lan port link lights should be lit |

Like I said, I tested it, before and after installation.
I hooked the laptop directly up to the cable and got great speeds. Also when I plug it into the WRT54-G the internet light goes on and if I unplug the 2wire the internet light goes off.
The only thing I can think of is that when the router is in the room with the 2wire they calibrate with one another, and when they get out of range they can't. |

Ok that tells me the cable is good
You should also get good speeds if you connect the cable to a linksys lan port and also connect the laptop by cable to a linksys lan port |

Also weird...
when I first tried the desired setup. I could connect to the internet using the WRT54-G wired... but no wireless. now I cant do either.

With the ethernet cable from the 2wire to the linksys,
On a computer connected by wire to the linksys run a ipconfig command in a command prompt
and post the output |

I cant get my laptop to connect with the router when I connect the Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the WRT54-G.
Heres the output data from the Internet port:

| If you got that ipconfig while connected to the linksys that the way it should look
The ethernet adapter gets its tcp/ip info from the 2wire dhcp server
When you configure the wireless adapter to connect to the linksys radio its tcp/ip info will look like the ethernet adapter's tcp/ip info |
