Well, i'm just saying, that in my country it's horrible. They're ripoffs, and have no service to speak of, and it goes more down than a rabbit on his wife.

That's what i mean by, it can't be that hard.

In my region there are almost no ADSL2 service here to speak of, so i figured maybe i could build me a small service, but i guess not, since the bloody telco owns everything...

How do you plan to get the ADSL2+ service to customers? The ILEC owns the copper, so yes you have to pay them to use their copper.

You have to co-locate DSLAM's in each CO you want to service out of. Of course to do that, you have to gain access from the ILEC, which will require you to be a CLEC.

I could keep going, but unless you have millions of $$$ .....

let's face it, there is no good ISP that I can use.

So, what do I really need to become an ADSL2 ISP (with controle over my own service)?

I mean, i can't be that hard, right?

- a rack
- dual power failover
- a good switch
- a couple of firewall/routers with BGP software on it
- a couple of pppd machines
- a public subnet with AS number
- at least 2 reachable gateways willing to BGP route my subnet (and preferably close to the central backbone.)
- access to the phone lines at a good location

or do i really have to pay the telco maintainer the big bucks for authorization? and does this ADSL2 station have to be at a specific location in the phonelines?
