No problem and BTW, I forgot to tell you that the 2wire is also VPN compatible. I use it all the time. |

| reply to OFBulldog The thing is my laptop is fine at home with my netgear wireless-n router so I don't think it's the laptop at all. I never seem to have a problem at home.
But that tip about the cordless phone might just be the problem. I'll try it this weekend. Thanks for your time and effort and patience. -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |

| reply to jschwar ok, so we'veestablished that your pc, mac and iphone allcan connect wirelessly. The issue is that your pc is having issues with the connection staying enabled after you've connected to your VPN at work.
If I'm reading this correctly, after you reboot, everything seems to be fine for a while and then starts going south. Is this a work pc? Since you have Cisco VPN software, I'm going to assume that it is.
Here's the sticky part. Nowhere in here have you described having to restart the modem at all. You seem to have experienced most of the connection issues with the mac having a few also. I'd ask your IT departmentto back-up and then re-image your drive as ther may be soething going on there. Also, depending on the location of the mac when it's dropping connection, it could also be a setting in the modem for the wireless. Check and see if you have a cordless phone by the modem. If you do, is it a 2.4GHz cordless? Check your wireless channel and power settings. I'd use channel 2 or 10 with a power setting of 10. |

| reply to OFBulldog one is a macbook and the other is a pc laptop. i also have an iohone that connects just fine. the modem is located in an alcove that overlooks the downstairs where the pc macbook and iphone are located and nothing is in the way. it's about 20 - 30 yards away. they all connect wirelessly. the pc wireless setting connects via wep with password using wireless-g. the macbook also does. thanks for the help! -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |

@qwest.net | reply to jschwar If you're both connecting by wireless, what are your wireless settings? How far are you from the modem? Is there anything between you and the modem that can block or interfere with the signal? |

| reply to efflandt I don't think the Cisco VPN client supports split tunneling which I think is what you are talking about. Either that or our company doesn't want us to use it. Probably the latter.
Also, my girlfriend is getting dropped connections on her Mac Book so the problems are not limited to my PC. -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |

| reply to efflandt I use the Cisco VPN client and I have a work laptop I am using from that location so there's not much I can do to it. It's corporate with all the rules and regulations of a big corporation. I doubt the problem is with the cisco VPN software, but I can see if there's an update from work. Do you need any other information from my 2wire gateway? I'm new to this forum and I haven't quite figured out the rules and the 2wire console yet.
Thanks, Jim -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |

| reply to jschwar I apparently have an older 2701HG-B (which might have been a refurbished one that warranty replaced a 2700HG-B). Its firmware version is 5.29.47 (no updates available).
What VPN are you using. I use a SonicWall client (a version of ipsec) which is supposed to be NAT aware, and did not have to do anything special for it for my wireless laptop on the 2Wire. In rare cases when it did not work, it was odd hours or weekends when I was not even sure if the other end was allowing connections.
Does your VPN allow you to selectively set just certain subnets through the VPN, and other things still through your default network, or does it take complete control and route everything through the VPN? My SonicWall icon shows a green vertical bar when accessing something through the VPN and red bar for access not through the VPN. When disabled, the icon has a red diagonal slash through it. |

3 edits | reply to jschwar Also, if I need a firmware upgrade, does anyone know the approved versions that SBC/Att will support? i've heard that that can be a problem. Also, the serial number of the gateway is 220821019051. Hope that helps. I don't think it would hurt to enter it, right?
Also, I noticed that netbios is turned off in the router both inbound and outbound. Could that be the problem with my PC?
Here's more information:

| reply to jschwar I notice some more problems when I was getting the logs for this post. It happened twice that I had to reboot because my connection became disabled and then when I was shutting down, something called the connection tray had to be ended manually by request. I assume this is relavent?
Here's the logs that I suppose I was supposed to post. SOrry, but I am only at my girlfriends house on the weekends so that's when I can post this stuff. Here they are: -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |

| My girlfriend has a 2wire 2701hg-b installed with her ATT dsl account. it seems to work just fine with her mac, but she had problems today a little with it asking for her password, but that's no big deal. My problem is with my dell PC connecting wirelessly to the 2701. After I connect to my VPN at work, the 2701 disables my wireless network connection and I can't enable it again through network connections. I can only seem to boot up and that gets it going again. I'm really not that familiar with the 2701hg-b but I'm more familiar with the netgear router that I have at home. Does this need a firmware upgrade? I doubt it's been updated in quite a while. Does this gateway support VPN? She doesn't use VPN so it wasn't a requirement until I came along. Thanks for any help. -- Give us this day our daily chocolate. |
