I also ran Eset and all it found was Win32/bagle.gen.zip worm...it appeard to get rid of it. Also ran my Avast and it came out clean.
My system is still slow (a recent computer running xp) and I think that maybe I still have some remnants of these prior infections.
Please let me know what I should do.

I suggest printing out each set of instructions and reading the entire post before proceeding. It will make following them easier. Please follow the directions in the order listed.
You didn't post the entire MBAM log, so I can't tell that version it was, or it was updated. When you post logs, the header often contains important information.
Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE: -Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer -Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab -Click the "Delete Cookies" button -Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button -When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed): Go to Tools > Options. Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window. Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Private Data). Click OK to close the Options window Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All. A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information. Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin -Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok. -Let it scan your system for files to remove. -Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked. -Press OK to remove them.
Please Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. - Click the Update tab. - Click Check for Updates. - If an update is found, it will download and install. - Click the Scanner tab. - Select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. - The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. - When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. - Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. - When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note) - The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. - Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab Uncheck and delete everything you find in there (except for "My current home page") and then select OK and then OK in the Display Properties window.
Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------
Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts. - When finished, it will produce a report for you. - Please post the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply
Please post a new HijackThis log, the log from MBAM, the log from ComboFix (combofix.txt), and note any errors encountered.

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Hi Joker,
I replied to myself above. Please review the logs. Also, it appears my email accounts have been deleted ...I think by combofix. It asked me about making IE my browser and I said yes. Since outlook express works off of IE, perhaps it overwrote my email info. Any way to get back? or should I reconfigure?
Thanks | |

I have never heard of that happening before. These articles will help you locate you Outlook Express data store: »articles.techrepublic.com.com/51···814.html »www.datarecovery.com.sg/data_rec···lder.htm
If you can't locate the data store, use Windows Search (Start > Search > For Files or Folders), to search for Sent Items.dbx. The folder that file is in is likely your data store folder, and you can configure Outlook Express to use that folder for the data store.
Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab Uncheck and delete everything you find in there (except for "My current home page") and then select OK and then OK in the Display Properties window.

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Hi Joker,
Could not get the email accounts back...even though the file ("pop3) for the accounts appeared to be there. All my inbox, sent, save, etc folders were fine and present in IE. Only the account info was deleted. Anyway...it was easier just to reenter the account info.
In regards to your other instruction...I deleted on file and left the "my current home page" unchecked. Here is the new HJT file:

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Your log looks fine now.
Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field: ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and / Then hit enter.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.
After that, I recommend you install a software firewall (the XP firewall isn't sufficient protection, it only checks incoming data). Two excellent free firewalls are Outpost Firewall Free (I used to use the Pro version and it's an excellent firewall) or Online Armor Free. Either one would be a good choice.
Create a Restore Point •Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore •Select Create a Restore Point and then Next. •In the box for "Restore point description", enter a descriptive name and press Create •When the "Restore Point Created" window appears, click Close
Run Disk Cleanup •Go to Start > Run and type the below line: cleanmgr •Click OK •If you have more than one drive, select the drive Windows is installed on •Click OK •When Disk Cleanup opens, select the More Options tab •In the System Restore section (bottom of window), click Cleanup •In the confirmation window that opens, click Yes[
Now click on the Disk Cleanup tab and select the following items: •Downloaded Program Files •Temporary Internet Files •Recycle Bin •Temporary Files Click OK in the confirmation window, select Yes (Disk Cleanup will close).
There are several free utilities you can use to help keep malware off your system:
A HOSTS file will prevent Internet Explorer from communicating with sites known to be associated with adware or spyware. A good regularly updated HOST file is MVPS HOSTS File, available at »www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.
A free non-resident utility to prevent the installation of ActiveX-based malware is JavaCool's SpywareBlaster. For real-time protection, there is SpywareGuard. Both are available at »www.javacoolsoftware.com/products.html.
I recommend reading Tony Klein's article So How did I get Infected in the First Place? at »www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.p···ic=60955

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Hi Joker,
I removed combofix and loaded the outpost firewall.
I cannot set a restore point (or eliminate prior points through the system restore tab under "System" found in the control panel). I keep getting the message that it is unable to do so and I should restart the computer.....I did this but it is still giving me the same message. Is something we did blocking this?
Thanks | |

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Nothing that we did should prevent that.
Right-click on My Computer and go to the System Restore tab. Click to place a checkmark in the box for "Turn off System Restore on all drives" Click OK, and close the System Properties window. Restart your system. After the system restarts, right-click on My Computer and go to the System Restore tab. Now turn system Restore back on and click OK and close the Window. Restart your system
Now go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > and go to System Restore. Click "Create a restore point" > Next, give it a name, and click Create.
Were you able to create the Restore Point successfully? -- Proud ASAP member since 2005 | |

join:2009-06-03 Stamford, CT | Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected Yes, I got it to work. I followed your instructions by running disk cleanup and installing online armor as my firewall. The only thing I am wondering is..... if the online armor will slow down my system?
Thanks for all your help. | |

| Re: HJT - Computer slowdown/popups/redirected It's good to hear that worked and you have System Restore working.
Remember, if you install Online Armor, you need to fully uninstall the Outpost firewall, not just turn it off (I wanted to be sure you had done that).
I don't think Online Armor will cause a significant slowdown, although each system is different and on an older, slower, system any use of additional resources will be noticed more than on a relatively fast system. -- Proud ASAP member since 2005 | |
