I quit using my DIR-655 from DLINK and had pick-up the Belkin N+ Gig Ports - NAS Storage by USB

I have to build a stand for it.. I just got it on top of case for now..
Note: Image was shot in the dark..

I have had very good results with the Linksys WRT310N - I have 2 of these and have installed 4 others on customer sites.

This device also takes DD-WRT if you want to take advantage of the better firmware (better than linksys).

Gig ports all around

Don't expect an 11n router to be faster, even with 11n client devices.

I would look at the X-550N or NH models by zyxel.
I have heard of testing the units WAN to LAN throughput with NAT, firewall, & QoS on, and the chart maxed out at 100 Mbps due to restrictions testing was higher was not possible but expectations are that it will go to 130 Mbps on TCP encapsulation. For the gigabit LAN side the information I have is that Smart bit was able to shoot large packet (1280 K) thru Ethernet ports, and reached maximum 514 Mbps with NAT on, firewall on. Also, the X550N has maximum 16000 NAT sessions; supports and 32 WLAN clients at the same time.

Do you have PDF specs on this router?

Belkin N+ uses Ralink latest RT2800 chip set for WPU 2T3R
More here in it's specs:

WPU RT2800
»www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/RT2800.pdf

PU RT2880
»www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/RT2880.pdf

I've been running this router shown in prior image for 2 weeks going on 3. No drops, no 404s, no WLAN, no WWAN, no WAN, no LAN issues. Gig ports are quick they use Realtek 838KB packet memory buffer.

I also use a program from Suncross called Network Drive Monitor good program to monitor networking mapping disconnect. The program will try to reconnect the network mapping automatically. I use this program on all wireless and wired devices. I can see how the routers I own performed. I can also tell if my HTPC is down or up. If' it's down in the system tray of all system there is drive network with a big red x that means something is down. The program will also tell which mapping has an issue. There is also truecrypt feature and free network map space features.

Other than the vague »us.zyxel.com/upload/download_lib···0308.pdf no.

Found some stuff on a blog but not tested anywhere yet.

Thanks for the info in PDF No_Strings.. But I like to go a bit deeper.

X-550N
CPU - Atheros AR9130 @400MHz
RAM - 32MB
Flash- 4MB
Wi-Fi - AR9103 3T3R MIMO
Switch - 4x10/100/1000 (don't have info on what chip is used)

The above specs are the same as Trendnet TEW-652BRP except for the Switch 4x10/100 and it's 2T2R MIMO which I have this already.

Belkin N+
CPU: Ralink RT2880F @266MHz
RAM: 32MB
Flash: 8MB
Wi-Fi: Ralink RT2820 2T3R MIMO
Switch: Realtek RTL8366SR 4x10/100/100
USB: External NAS (HDD/Flash or SHC/)

No it's great info.. I know I could go to the FCC ID photos to get more images of what the system board looks like. But thanks though!

Interesting that one of the PCB clones like the TEW-652BRP arrangement which DIR-615C1 is based on also. The 2T2R.

Thanks for the photos I see I am not alone in digging up the hidden spec on the unit in question.

funny about Asian consumer wireless routers. There may be only 2-3 PC board designs for a certain generation, e.g., Broadcom's is widely cloned.

The user interface, enclosure style, and so on are like the badging in the retailing of major appliances. And those badges (seller's nameplate) are not even screwed on anymore, just stuck on with adhesive tape.

No heatsink on these PUs, WPU, GigPU and Atheros PU and WPU get really, really hot without them! The tin covers use for RF EMI/EMF but still the GUI Admin is different. I guess almost like DD-WRT which is WIP (work in progress for these chipses)

I did try sticking on heatsinks to the chips it did reduce the heat.. Performance was lousy for Ahteros 9103 I don't care to ever use those chips again.

PCB colors (blue/green) are different and layout might be slightly different.

Competition is good.
Too much competition is bad, resulting in crap products.

I guess we do have a choice in higher-end WiFi but few can resist a supposed bargain.

Guess that's why my last refrigerator of choice was $3300. The prior $600 one was, well, you know.

The above image only cost me $24 with free shipping. Today it's like $40 to $50. I would recommend no one get any 10/100 Wireless N. Best you get 10/100/1000 Wireless N so you would at least get true speeds well near it.

as to 10/100/1000 - I'm in the club that says for gig-E (1000) you should use a separate switch. Don't pay a premium for a w-router that has gigE switch built-in.

and let's bang the drum again: for most users, 11n is no faster than 11g.

I agree with your first sentiment, but disagree on the second. In fact I wonder why you don't bang the "dual band drum" instead of the "N is nearly worthless" drum. In addition, I think you'd also do potential wireless router purchasers a favor by also extolling the virtues of purchasing a router that can be flashed to run open source firmware. The simple addition of which tremendously increases the feature set of most consumer routers (both N and G).
