| reply to Edrick People have used these hearing impaired systems to scam people quite a bit, so those who really need to use them loose creditability.
I insist on local pickup, and cash only, however I don't sell anything that is worth considerable value on craigslist. Many times meeting at a neutral place unless it's a very large item. So insist on cash for transactions this small imho. |

| reply to Edrick The first message was probably computer generated. They have programs that search the CL RSS feeds for "items" over a certain amount.
Notice it refers to "the item"; never actually mentions what was listed in the ad.
These are check scammers and probably not even in your state or even in the US.
CASH talks.
I get these all the time. I reply with the same response: "CASH ONLY, will not hold, local pickup." I get the same second response. -- Scott Henion

| reply to Edrick It is a common scam to write a check, get the goods and then seller finds out check is worthless.
My advice on selling stuff on Craigslist is to only accept cash. I've never had trouble but everything I've done on Craisglist has been in person, cash in hand.

| reply to Edrick Scam. As tschmidt said, it's common to use fraudulent checks.
One of two things is likely to happen.
1) You get the check, they get the goods and you find out in a week the check is fraudulent.
2) You get the check, and lo and behold, it's "accidentally" written for more than you asked for. They tell you to deposit the check, take the difference and send it back to them. You do so, they never show to receive the "item", and you find out in a week the check is fraudulent so you're out what you withdrew and sent back to them.
It won't end well. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |

| reply to Edrick This is the typical Craig's List SCAM.
You should change the terms of your sale in your add to be:
Must be picked up in Winter Park, FL - CASH ONLY.
This will completely eliminate such SCAMmers from even bothering to contact you. |

| reply to Edrick Is this the type of item that would be commonly used by a hearing impaired person?
I sell several hundred items a year on both eBay and Craigslist. I accept personal checks only if from established eBay buyers with a solid rating and it involves a small amount of money (less than $20), or a repeat customer I've have good dealings with before.
As for Craigslist, cash and only cash will do. There is zero recourse for either side if something goes wrong.
