They may say that they fixed the problem but I still can't search from the IE 6 address bar without getting thrown into bing. Sorry, I have IE 6 at work and don't think my complaints will get a very large state agency to upgrade. FRUSTRATED!!!
They did fix it. It's your network admin that hasn't. I'm willing to bet that he/she has not pushed the update to the masses.

Avoiding the obvious, why are you still running IE6 ?
for what its worth - most network engineers still run ie6 on their computers (mine included) because most of the cisco web administration pages do not render correctly under ie7, ie8, ff, or opera. some are also highly dependent on the java version you are running at the time. because of this, i will not upgrade my browser to ie7 or ie8 (yes, i know there is compatibility mode in ie8, but i don't like the layout either ).

Why upgrade to bloated software that violates decade Human Interface Guidelines?

In all honesty Mele20 See Profile, my post was not directed at you. I never saw your post before it got deleted. I was referring to dandelion See Profile's post stating they would only use FF until it was fixed and if you look 2 posts above that I made reference to it being fixed.

Seems like more and more people here just like to jump on any band wagon that drives by. Just like a bunch of lemmings.
Sorry to get your panties in a wad, sometimes people tend to miss things especially reading them late at night. I am glad to know it is fixed however and interesting stats haroldo See Profile thanks for posting!

I am glad to know this, I use IE6 and ff mainly, until there is a fix will plan most of my searches with ff.
Do you people only read the first post and that's it?

THEY HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. Just like I stated in my post above.

EDIT: Also, if you had bothered to read the first link supplied by the OP you would have read at the end of that article that the problem had been fixed.

It is truly amazing how FUD spreads. I would have expected more from people in these forums.
I owe everyone an apology because I didn't read the link either. I guess though that I should be glad at least that my post, based on the information in the OP's post, got deleted. I could give various excuses as to why I didn't read it (until just a moment ago) but there really isn't a viable excuse. I sure would have made a different post if I had read it. You have every right to be upset with us for being lazy, in too much of a hurry...whatever excuse. Then to have it turn out to be a server problem and not an IE problem...well, I have even more egg on my face and I thank you for your two posts.

Is this an issue with the Address bar that you normally type URLs into, or the Google search toolbar that you installed as an optional addon? These two fields are very different.

When using the Address bar, if IE thinks the text is a valid URL, it just goes to that URL. But if it's regular text, IE then tries to perform a web search using a search engine. After typing in a search query, IE will redirect you to this URL:

hxxp://auto.search.msn.com/response.asp?MT=address_bar_text&srch=4&prov=your_default_search_engine&utf8

So even if you've selected Google as your default search engine, IE will still send your search through MSN search first. MSN Search will then bounce you to Google to finish the search. It is this step that is failing, MSN Search (and Live Search) are transforming into Bing, and Bing isn't doing the old fashioned redirect to your default search engine.

This functionality is baked into IE6, there's little you can do to fix this specific issue other than use a different web browser, or hope that Microsoft fixes it.

My IE6 browser just got hijacked by Microsoft's new web browser, "Bing". Google is my default, and typing into the Google search bar now brings up MS's Bing search engine. There is no option on the Bing site to opt-out, or turn it off. Apparently, Microsoft is aware of the problem and they recommend IE6 users upgrade to IE7 or IE8.

BING has hijacked my IE6 address bar google search
»www.google.com/support/forum/p/c···61&hl=en

The following is only a temporary fix, as it only works in Google's Toolbar. It DOES NOT work when searching from IE6's Address bar.

In IE6, go to your menu bar:

Tools
-->Internet Options
---->Security
------>Restricted Sites

Add "www.bing.com" and "bing.com" to your list of "Restricted sites".

First of all, your quoting of Microsoft is not really a quote at all seeing how it is only half the quote. Saying they recommend upgrading to IE7 or IE8 and not also adding that they stated they will issue an update soon to correct the issue is nothing more than FUD.

Now look what MS has gone and done. As of late last night, they have corrected the problem. Damn them. Damn them to hell.
