| SIP=registered, but phone doesn't ring!?
Hi guys,
It's been a while since I posted in here but i guess that's because everything was working so well...until now...
I moved and now have a new router but the settings on my IP phone are the same. I use 2 providers: one for outbound calls (voip.ms works fine) and one for inbound (vbuzzer=problems).
My IP phone shows successful registration and I CAN make outbound calls but inbound calls go to voicemail even when I have failover set to my cell. When I reset the connection (ie first register with the SIP server) the phone will ring. After a few minutes it does not ring and goes straight to voicemail.
I have a feeling this has something to do with my new router. It's a WRT54GL running Tomato 1.21. Are there any settings I should be checking in there that may be blocking the calls somehow?
Cheers. |

| 1) You're using vbuzzer.com:80 as the proxy correct?
2) Is it safe to assume both Voip.ms and VBuzzer are registering in an ATA (or is there a middleman service involved)
3) In Tomato/MLPPP enable UPnP and forward 5060, as well as the specific RTP ports for your device to the devices IP
4) If you haven't already it helps assign static DHCP addreses based on MAC to all the devices in the LAN..
If you happen to be logging into VBuzzer softphone at the same time as the ATA, and then logging out that usually causes problems... |

| reply to emoci Thanks for the help guys. I am using a Nokia E51 as my IPphone so some things my not work quite as expected here...
I assigned the phone a static IP by its MAC address in Tomato (static DHCP) and forwarded port 80 (the port I was always told to use for vbuzzer) and so far so good. It rings. Like I said, it usually rings at first and then will not so I will take some time and see if this continues to work.
Thanks emoci! |

I like to use my phone on the go too so should I enable NAT mapping in order to have a better connection in general in diverse loctions? 'NAT Mapping' and 'NAT Keep Alive' tends to help in most cases...but is the option available on the phone (and will you incurr GPRS/3G data costs or are you using it strictly over wifi when it is available)...
Also is there a STUN server option on the phone...
Did you enable UPnP as well as port forwarding on Tomato...I find it tends to shoulder most of the responsibility in these cases... |

Is there such a thing called a static DHCP (Dynamic Host Configurable Protocol) address? Sure, if the "dynamic" part is dynamic in the non-dynamic (static) sense! |

| Yes there is an "expert" tool that was developed for the Nokia SIP stack that can do NAT mappin and keep alive and make use of a STUN server. To be honest though these WORDS are mostly just words to me...
UPnP was already enabled in Tomato but did not work without the port forwarding. The "static" DHCP option is just any easy way to assign a static IP to the phone...
Looks quite clear that for now it is working at home (done lots of testing) so thanks for the ideas! Maybe I'll try NAT and STUN but for now I'm good with this. The Nokia SIP stack is still a bit buggy so it tends to crash when you screw around with these things when you don't know what you're doing.
I only use voip over wifi, and if you know Canadian data (and cell) rates you would know why!! Saves me a bundle though!! |

Edit: Eh, I mean statically dynamic, of course! |
