| reply to threegsus Hi.
Qwest charges $79.99 for 20mb service on a month-to-month basis. Or $69.99 for 12 mos. if you sign a contract.
Seems like Cox is a better deal PLUS if you bundle you get more savings. I'm already saving $33 a month with bundling and 20mb service.

| reply to threegsus I find myself wondering what the cap speed is. So it's 28Mbps after powerboost..great. Is it really 20Mbps? 25?
Cox makes it damn near impossible to find out without empirical testing. -- It's wierdo, not weirdo. Yes, I know that's not the 'proper' spelling of the similar english language word. |

Just read the details and it says:
Regular download speeds without PowerBoost® 25 Mbps.
Regular upload speeds without PowerBoost® 2 Mpbs.

| reply to threegsus Mmmm That should have large window size of TCP header can really archiving much faster throughout than small default 64KB TCP window size that you can do nothing about trying to tell cox to reduce latency so having large window size of TCP header will do you a good of getting a big throughout. DOCSIS series won't do whole TCP header offload for you. -- Professional Linux environmental blows microsoft windows out of the water. |

| Your posts, interesting as they may be, always leave my head twitching like a frog in a microwave. I really didn't get any of the last; however, I consistently beat your speed scores with a lock-stock 1.67GHz Intel iMac Mini, and I wouldn't know my RWIN if it bit me on the ass...but don't stop; at least you got a chuckle or two out of Tubbynet, which was more than I could no matter how I tried. |

| reply to threegsus said by threegsus :only the Motorola SB6120 at $99.99 can be purchased from Cox. The Motorola SB6120 is not available for purchase from Cox. It is only available through retail outlets. The only DOCSIS 3.0 modem that Cox caries is the Cisco DPC3000. |

I mean hell its not always about the download speeds, not when you have millions of people who game and host games, and that uses your upload speeds, and with low 2mb up connections, your hosting aint gunna be that good. |

1 edit | reply to threegsus I just saw this today also, $20 more for an additional 5mbit down and .5mbit upload is kinda high... But my biggest question why do you need Docsis 3.0 modem for these speeds? I can only hope this is just a temp package and soon will offer real Docsis 3.0 speeds for this price (hench the need for Docsis 3.0 modem.) |

| reply to threegsus The process for signing up is pretty weird. You order it and they schedule a manadtory pro install for it 3 days later. Those 3 days are given for 'their network team to determine if your area is capable of receiving the higher speeds.' At that point the tech (subcontractor) comes out and installs the cisco modem.
A network engineer called me on day 2 to let me know my area doesn't have the speeds yet, so I get a $20 credit this month. He also noted my area should be upgraded in the next week or 2.
Also, when I initially ordered it the salesperson just added it to my account and activated my modem which I heard he wasn't supposed to do, so I got a free tech install. This is brand new for everyone in Cox AZ so your mileage may vary... 2 of my other friends have had similar issues with ordering. |

The price list from Cox Arizona DOES show the ability to purchase the 3.0 modem for $99.99 but it does NOT specify the brand/model.

I signed up in the hope that they're going to up the speeds in the future once they iron out all the kinks in their docsis 3.0 modem.
FWIW I'm online with my sb6120 I purchased at Fry's. Some are being told they must use the Cisco modems cox provides but I was told my sb6120 would work fine...
edit: to add, my friend who is supposedly in a docsis 3.0 capable area is getting about 28down/5up on speedtests, and his modem is reporting that it is NOT channel bonding at the moment. |

Yes they will because its in the early stages of D3 and they want to make sure all signal levels are withen like a 2db between each channel. So you will be paying a install fee. |
