Re: [AZ] Cox Announces New Speed Tier--Premier Plus at up to 28M

Is 28Mbps/5Mbps possible on Cox's network without channel bonding? If so, then I could care less about the bonding. It was maxing out at roughly the same speeds I got with the old modem and the lower Premier tier, which made me think the channel bonding is what I was missing.

The tech even said he installed Premier Plus for someone a couple buildings down from me (i.e. inside the same tiny gated condo/townhouse community) and the speeds were good there.

As a plus, I know all my cabling is in impeccable shape.

So what did he do? He took the DOCSIS3 modem and left, no resolution at all, just said "well that's too bad".
So you get NOTHING[other than to pay for the so called professional install and $20 extra a month for less speed than you were getting before]
Cox really needs to get the issues worked out of D3 before going live with it.

there doing this because they don't want to be competitive, i don't know what the new phone company here will be doing (probably nothing)

but, i've seen lots of complaints about AZ in the past about latency.

I have it on good authority that the firmware testing is well underway and that we should be seeing it soon. We just want to make sure that it does not cause other problems within our system before we roll it out.
Has there been any updates on the firmware push? The occasional reboots are starting to get annoying

It should already be live (I know I have it on my modem already).

Hey TOC1,
Remembering all the help you gave me in the past, I feel a tad conflicted offering any suggestions, but you're one of the few Right Coasters (especially DC-ites) that thinks life west of the Mississippi is civilized and worthy of concern. Basically, we suck hind tit and you guys get the good stuff first. You can clearly see I don't have upgraded firmware either so it's looking more like a plot than an accident...or maybe local mgmt is a tad slow on the draw.
Regards

Ditto here. Just did a full on restart, reboot and no new firmware. Although I did drop the ghost bonded channel

Check again

stevieg2123, if you are still seeing issues you might want to call in. I noticed that your modem is doing quite a few power adjustments and your Tx is a bit higher than I like to see it.

*edit*

Also if anyone wants their firmware upgraded and resetting from the modems internal page does not do the trick (Just power cycling will not do it) drop either myself or CoxTech1 See Profile a pm (With your mac address) and we'll see what we can do.

We've had some wicked weather last few days (109~112) and it's been impossible to keep the Tx below 50. I'm going to run a new line to my box tonight and see what that does.

Thanks for the help

Hello and you da man!!! Thanks a bunch and back at you
Now since you're in such a fine mood, this is beginning to concern me:
Power Level 51 dBmV . This June, when I installed the little toaster, until mid-August it held a rock-solid 47 dBmV but then started creeping up to the above 51. I have no splits and in May when my SB5120 flapped off to modem heaven, the excellent tech on the call re-did every inline splice from the dropbox to the modem. Word is I'm on a bloated node and it's been above average temp from July on—which means it's been hotter than Hell instead of the usual hot as Hell. I've had a few brief outs lately, but no pattern to them. So do I have a problem or is it just I am a problem?
Regards and thanks again

Ran a new line to the box and removed the 2-way splitter (Rx was ~7 so we tried to tone it down) and I'm at 4dBmV Rx 47dBmV Tx w/ 37dB SNR on the Rx. Much better

Also, I can see logs now - this is fantastic! Thanks for your help

Hey dere Oh Stringless One,
I agree—the thing has become pretty unfocused; although there's a lot of good G2 in it, a new user would have to be psychic to find it. The headline is pretty stale as well.

And thank Odin for that, or whatever. I bear the guilty pleasure of starting this meandering beast, but I think this sick old dog needs to be put down...

kansei,
From the people at Cox that I have talked with yes, you can hit those speeds without channel bonding. The thing you want to look for is getting a downstream lock somewhere around 850Mhz. In order for you to get that, they do have to upgrade some stuff in your area. Even then, they may run into problems.

I ordered my Premier Plus service and had the Pro Install in June and STILL don't have the speeds. I have been in touch with my Area Manager and one of the local engineers that are doing the work locally and they have been most candid with what is going on in my area.

I gets frustrating trying to get to someone that can actually get you the information about what's really going on but, once you do it's nice.

Also, make sure that you get a credit on your bill until they get you all setup.

Kansei, I noticed that your downstream channel status is not bonded because you get just only one channel downstream at all, maybe the tech haven't configured the bonded channels for you on your premier plus tier. if you want DOCSIS 3 modem back then you must tell the tech at ISP to configure for the bonded channels like two channels, three channels and four channels configuration setting.

Cablevision was doing 38/5 on DOCSIS 2.0 CMTS's/modems so its more than possible!
