| reply to threegsus I just ordered this service and hopefully if everything goes smoothly I should have it installed on Tuesday, May 9th. I'm wondering if Cox is pushing for D3 modems as a way to generate more money because of the economy. Per specifications my SB5101 is capable of 38 mbps down (and 30 up I believe). So the Cisco and D3 seems unneeded.
I will post REAL speed results once installed, and not just power boost speeds! |

| reply to DrThodt_ Agreeed that this is a terrible deal...im a power user and I've been with cox since the late 90s and everytime theres been a chance to upgrade to a higher speed, it was no brainer, whatever the cost was.....this is the first time ive decided not to upgraded....i don't know what they were thinking on this one... |

| what cox should do is upgrade all premiere and preferred to dos 3.0 speeds. they want to see how little we will tolerate. since we have no reason to need or want these speeds. (sarcasm) i'm currently getting 2.5 upload now. would love to see say 10.0 megs upload (hint, hint)

| reply to threegsus Q. What DOCSIS 3.0 modems does Cox support? A. Currently, the Cisco DPC 3000 and the Motorola SB 6120 are approved for use on the Cox network. Customers can purchase the Cisco model directly from Cox for $99.99 or a Motorola 6120 at a retail outlet.
The Motorola CB 6120 is approved and will work with all tiers of CHSI including Premier Plus.
Let me know if you have any more questions and Id be happy to help!
Thanks!

Do you know if channel bonding is being used in the AZ market like it is in other markets? My friends and I who have the service have checked and none of our modems are bonding channels. |
|
  CoxPremierScam
@cox.net
| No they arent channel bonding. They are forcing consumers to pay 29.99 for a Docsis 3.0 modem that will only run in docsis 2.0 its a joke and a rip off.. The regular surfboard modem and the 60 dollar a month plan has the SAME SPEEDS as the 80 dollars a month.. RIP OFF |

| reply to madden2k5 Regarding my previous post, this is only specific to the AZ market and I would contact your local market for questions regarding area specifics. The Motorola SB6120 is on the approved Cox modem list for all markets.
Thanks!

Matt @ Cox Communications Arizona Ok was making sure because in my area they are saying its approved for use, but not D3 right now. So thats why i bought this up, before other users would be wondering. |

@cox.net | reply to CoxPremierScam I'd almost hope they weren't channel bonding. Yay added overhead using multiple channels when you could just use 1. |

I'd almost hope they weren't channel bonding. Yay added overhead using multiple channels when you could just use 1. Well making people use D3 modems is crazy just for 28mb down connection. Because on the current 2.0 modem im running on, it hits 28 or more all the time during off-peak hours. So to make someone get D3 is useless when its only a 25mb down connection without powerboost, and not using channel bonding. Thats what the D3 modems were made for, and my D2 modem has hit 32mb down a few times. So any D2 modem is capable of running that speed tier without D3 modem.
So hopefully they are just testing these speeds, and are gunna up them more for the users on this tier, because if not, and they are not using any channel bonding, its a complete rip off imo. |
|
  DrThodt_
@cox.net | imo its a complete ripoff regardless until it passes 38mbps.
Can anyone @ Cox offer anything in regards to a fee for installation? The website says no, Cox says yes. Just confusing. Possibly unethical. |

I can answer this question, and its yes they will charge you a install fee to use there D3 speed tier, because its still early on in D3 launching, so they want to send a tech out to install the modem, and/or look at your modem, to make sure its withen the specs they like to see. |
