More, but you all get the point(I hope).
Even more, is the impact on movie franchises (movies with prequels and sequels and spinoffs):

Downloaded Transformers while in Europe. Hadn't seen it in the theatres and wanted something English-language to watch. Got back home and bought the title on BluRay and am looking forward to the release of the sequel. Were it not for BitTorrent, I'd have *never* watched or bought the first one, nor would I have had any plans to see any sequels.

Given how misleading the average trailer/TV commercial/etc. for movies are, it's *really* the only way to tell if you want to see or buy the movie. I mean, movie tickets at the damned mid-week matinees are $10.50/seat and nighttime showings are even more expensive. Why am I gonna blow $30 on tickets for my wife and I if I don't *know* it's going to be worth seeing?

Um it's called LIFE. No guarantees. Go see the movie and take your chances. That's like saying I should get to see my NFL team at the stadium for free and only pay if they win.

I'm not sure where you see movies, I've never pay more than $6-8.

Umm... No: it's called borderline fraud, given how little the trailers frequently have to do with the actual film.

And your assertion is like saying it's ok for the car dealership to pull a bait-and-switch.

I haven't been able to pay that little since the early 90s. Move to a real urban area. Movies are silly-expensive in the northeast.

that's because according to your profile, you live in the middle of nowhere at least 100 miles from anything resembling a city.

Two points...

First point:
You believe that living near a city is actually a plus? Which part of that crap has anything to do with "green" and why should I give a damn if I, or he, lives near a city. For that matter, why does living near a city make him less entitled to access?

Second point:
Really. You really are arrogant enough to suggest that those old folks driving in Florida. Those same old folks that fought WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam are "drunks". Son you are too young to actually have a clue but old enough to think that the old, really are not worthy of driving. You are too young to have a clue and too old to be so arrogant.

1) a price for a movie ticket in manhattan is $12.50 at most theatres. As far as entitlement to access, I don't know why movies are sometimes released in cities first prior to the rest of the country, you should probably ask the studios.

2) I didnt say anything about old people, I just said Florida. From your comments it's clear that you've never driven there.

And? So. Ok so it's so you're bragging that you live in an area wher you pay MORE for stuff? Yeah ok that's something to brag about that you are stupid enough to pay MORE. Seriously you pay nearly double to go to the movies and you brag about that? yeah ok.
It's also called living in an area where homes haven't lost their value (prices have stagnated, but not declined) and living in an area where it's still possible for non-lawyers/doctors/bankers/etc. to still pull down six-figure incomes. Translation: it's all relative (higher-income areas have correspondingly higher prices on things. It's what makes online purchasing so great).

Picking the Theater next to my house and going by movietickets.com I would have to pay like this

Prime time
$9.50 x 2 - Wife and myself
$1.00 x 2 - service charge
-----
$21.00

Mid-day week day
$7.50 x 2 - Wife and myself
$1.00 x 2 - service charge
-----
$17.00

That's for DFW.

For NYC:
$12.50 x 2 - Wife and myself
$1.00 x 2 - service charge
-----
$27.00

That's a lot of money to spend on something you may not like at all. If I spend that much I do not want to be disappointed and walk out and be out of a chunk of money like that.

Well that's life. Back in the "old" days that's how you did it. You went and took your chances. Just like my football example. And football games are a LOT more expensive that a movie. $27 won't get you ONE ticket. Not to mention parking fees and food.
Well, welcome to the NEW days. If I buy a bluetooth headset, and I don't like the way it fits or sounds, I can return it. If I buy food, and decide that it does not taste good, I can return it.

If you go the movies and hate the film, you cannot return it. If you purchase a DVD, and do not like it, you cannot return it. You are stuck with it no matter what.

You have too much of a sense of entitlement. You feel that the entertainment industry can make crap, and still get lots of money for it. It works both ways, my friend...

Even the RECORD industry realizes those days are LONG gone. Things like listening stations at record stores and services like last.fm are testament to that. While things like last.fm are recent phenomena, listening stations have been around since the early 90s.

And, like the rest of the "examples" you try to offer, it is both irrelevant and not even remotely an apples-to-apples comparison.

said by BF69:

In premium seating areas? No.

said by BF69:

besides if you saw it online even if younjust loved the movie wyou would even be more stupid to go pay that much at the theater to watch a movie you've already seen.
So, what you're saying is that, regardless of having seen it online, first, there's no intrinsic value to seeing something at the theatres. Good assertion to support your overall argument, there, bud.

said by BF69:

You have too much of a sense of entitlement. You feel everyone should do everything for you and not get paid and provide you everything for free. Well that might happen in Fantasyland, but this is REAL life.
Where are you seeing people saying that people shouldn't be paid for their work? I'm really not seeing that. What I'm seeing is people saying that GOOD work should be rewarded. When good work is rewarded and bad work punished (i.e., people refuse to buy it), it tends to provide real incentive to create better works. But, you probably think it's a bad thing to have performance-based compensation.

Actually something like listening stations have been around since LPs were new...

We have to remember that the recording industry has been claiming catastrophe since the time radio stations decided to play music over the air. They SWORE that if people could hear music for FREE via radio, they would NEVER buy the records. What actually happened was that record sales went through the roof!
