| Re: PS3 - FF VII available for download I was JUST talking to my B-I-L about this and how I wanted to check them out, as I never really understood the hype. (Always fewlt turn based stuff was kinda lame), but I've run out of other stuff to play, so I wanted to check out the FF stuff. He said FFIII may be going back to far to really be worth it, but VII would be just about right....so thanks, I'll be picking this up this evening! | |

Not to spoil it for you but if you have not passed up the Midgar Zolom yet there is a way to make your game a lot easier.
I'm still curious if this is a straight up emulation of the original or are there enhancements. Just wondering if its better than using epsxe emulator.

I think all my characters are chilling around lvl 20 right now. I am quoting from a web site as its been a while for me so here goes:
if you want to get the powerful enemy skill Beta, which the Midgar Zolom casts, follow these steps. Firstly, equip one person with the Enemy Skill materia and Fire + Elemental on his/her armor. Cloud is a good pick for this since he probably has the highest max HP right now. Also, have someone in your group have the Poison and Restore materia. Next, confront the Midgar Zolom and Bio right away. If the Midgar Zolom doesn't turn green, cast it again. Keep on attacking it and healing until it stands up to its full height. At that time, have only the person without the Enemy Skill or the Restore materia attack. Why? It's because the Zolom will eventually do a move that'll cast one person out of the battle, usually the person that hit it last. Now, attack it with all your might, but have the person with the Enemy Skill materia with an HP of over 500 at least. The Zolom will then cast Beta. Heal up and revive ASAP, then kill it off. At that time, the Beta materia should be yours. Phew!
ps - the midgar zolom is the worm looking creature in front of the cave near midgar city

| $10 for a re-release of a game that's HOW old? Yowch. Talk about gouging people.
I know many of you are fine with paying it, but really, it's mad to me to do so. If you OWN the game already, there should be some way for you to "validate" you have a copy and get the download for free. For those not owning it, I think $5 is more than enough for a game that was Sony's greatest cash cow at one point.
It's no different from the Wii downloads of old NES games - they want $10 for some of them too, which is just as asinine.
Of course, YMMV. | |

In which case you're not buying the same thing over again, you don't own the game - so buying it for $10 from the online store may seem like a good deal to you. That's fine. I'm talking for people that own the game already.
BF69 - I knew someone would make that comparison, but this is a totally different medium. A record to a tape/CD = new medium, costs to produce/distribute/etc. Whereas this is just a download. No extra medium on Sony's part, it's $10 pure profit. They would pay for bandwidth if you do or don't download the game.
That's why I said YMMV - if you're happy shelling out $10 for a download of a game you already own, then that's cool. Have at it. Me, no thanks.

Me, no thanks. Well, no. You actually covered both bases by saying it should be $5 for those that don't own it. So not entirely true.
Can you elaborate as to why someone who owns the game would want to download it besides being too lazy to put the game in the machine?
I guess I dont see the need to even download it if I already own it. I do own a copy and would just play the disk if needed.
Another question: On the download, has Sony purchased the rights from Square or are they shared? this obviously could shoot many holes in your validation theory as well if the publisher is different in each case.
It honestly doesn't matter to me either way but I find your logic silly.I own a HUGE collection of NES games. People play to download them on the Wii. Nintendo charges people for them. I sure wish I could validate all these NES games I have and get them for free downloads. Especially the huge cash cows like the mario games!
From a business standpoint it doesnt make sense and publishers would never even release these games if the public expected this.

| The one reason I would buy this is simply so that I don't run the risk of wrecking yet another copy of Final Fantasy VII that I had purchased. Considering this is my third hard copy (that I had to buy at $50 back when it was still not yet in Greatest Hits because of the PS1 having wrecked the other copies I'd had), the idea of having a download version that wouldn't run the risk of being ruined by a weak/faulty disc drive definitely has its appeal to me. That, and it would mean relative safety when grinding for items/levels/stats/whatever. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever | |

1 edit | So your worried your PS3 is gonna ruin your disks now?
Or just another chance to bash your poor luck with Sony products by referring back to something that happened many years ago?
No matter, I guess that is a viable reason for the couple of people in the world who may be concerned their PS3 is gonna eat their disk.
Damn, all this talk about this game is making me wanna play it again. | Re: PS3 - FF VII available for download Considering my first ps3 ruined a fresh copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 - proving what a brilliant lie all that hardcoating for bluRay discs is - such a thing became a very legitimate concern. Especially given the rather high cost of getting another physical copy nowadays.
Secondly, it means no more having to worry about long grinding sessions done for trying to harvest AP/items/etc. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever
