NBA TV will be moving from the Sports Entertainment Package to Digital Classic, by the start of the '09-'10 season.

| Seems to me that since Comcast can't force consumers to pay extra for the NFL Network it's going to try to spin the discontinuation of the Sports Entertainment Package.
If you need further clarification, look at the fifth paragraph of the article where it states that the NHL network will be placed in the Digital Classic tier. |

| reply to CRP Yeah what's left? Fox Sports channels, Soccer, Tennis (limited markets), etc...
Well Blue Ridge and Service Electric supply the Fox Sports channels, Soccer, and Tennis on regular digital tiers (no special sports tiers required). So I couldn't imagine those networks cost so much extra to deserve being put in a special tier. |

| reply to CRP Comcast needs to either kill the S&E Pack or expand it like the satellite providers with all the regional sports networks and make it a true Premium service.Unfortunately until enough systems migrate more analogs there is not enough capacity for the SD versions let alone the HD streams of the sports channels. As long as enough people pay the extra money for just a few channels Comcast has no reason to change it. |

...As long as enough people pay the extra money for just a few channels Comcast has no reason to change it. I'm not sure I agree on this point, on two fronts:
1. The $5.99/month for the Sports Package used to get X channels, now it's less than X (NFL, NHL, NBA gone from it). Shouldn't this be less now? Also, if those channels are the reason you subcribed to begin with, you might cancel now.
2. With these channels now being added to the other tier, won't there be a rise in price for it for everyone? If I'm now paying an extra $3/month for these channels on a lower tier, maybe I don't want to spend $6 still for the Sports pkg.

| reply to CRP I am probably going to cancel the sports package come this fall because all of the channels I want seem to be on the digital tier now:
-MLB Network -NHL Network -NBA Network -NFL Network -Big 10 Network -ESPNU
Is this right? |

| reply to CRP That sounds about right, even Versus, Speed, and Golf aren't in the Sports Entertainment pack and available in HD as well.
Don't forget ESPN360.com is also available for free once Disney gets around to adding Comcast's IP addresses to their filter/firewall.
I don't think that there is enough justification for paying long term contracts for tennis and the Fox Sports channels and keep them in a separate tier for $6 more a month, there is too much money going out and not enough coming in.
I'm just waiting for a price increase for all tiers to justify the addition of these channels for everyone. |

| reply to CRP I would cancel it, but I don't pay for it a la carte. I have the Triple Play Platinum and it just includes all of those channels at that package price. There's no removing them for a $5 discount on the Triple Play Platinum package. It's a bundle thing. |
