I can't believe it's finally here!

I've been ready for the digital transition since 2001 when I started digitally recording and watching OTA HD content. I am so glad that it's finally going to happen.

It is happening on a Friday afternoon. That should be a real mess. The Wal-mart shoppers will be scrambling for converters.

Why would it be a mess? 42.5% of stations are already digital. 33% of households already have a HDTV which have built in digital tuners. Anyone who has bought new TV, HDTV or SDTV, in the last 2 years has a TV with a built in tuner. tens of millions of coupons have been redeemed already. Seriously if someone hasn't gotten ready by NOW they don't need to have TV. Zero excuses really.

Yes my girlfriend is already pisssed since she will miss her soaps that day. The ABC channel with her soaps is moving from UHF to VHF. She has 5 devices with digital tuners that will need to be rescanned. Plus she wil have to go to her mothers house to rescan her two boxes.

shouldn't she wait until the 13th because station will be transitioning at different times. Some will do it at 12:01 AM some might do it 11:59 PM

A) the other poster said it will be a mess because wal-mart will be crowed with people looking for boxes.

B) recanning your box takes a few minutes.

C) there are 2 stations in my area are moving back to VHF so it's not like I'm not effected. I expect no problems though.

Rescanning can take 5 to 10 mionutes depending on the box. My girlfriend needs to go to her mothers house that day just to scan the two boxes she has. My girlfriend also has two tiVos, one digital to analog converter, and three tuners in two dogotal TVs and one HDTV to rescan. It will take her much longer than a few minutes to rescan all those.

I just have five TiVos for me to rescan. But I will do them all together.

Keep in mind for some stations switching is not as simple as flipping a switch.

For example here in NH when local PBS station WENH shut down analog they moved digital from UHF to VHF. Took several hours between shutting down analog before digital was up on final channel assignment. They were literally rewiring (coax hard line) the transmitter.
