Re: I dont know of anyone who uses an antenna.

I think you are going to see renewed interest in OTA TV as a result of digital conversion. OTA quality is typically significantly better then cable since cable often transcode program to fit more channels in given amount of spectrum.

Depending on viewing habits would you prefer spending a few dollars in the TV antenna to watch a few local channels or $25-50 per month to get hundreds?

That's a good point. I have a $50 Radio Shack indoor antenna, sitting on the lower floor and I'm at the suggested maximum range of 15-miles for HDTV DTV reception and my HD picture is absolutely great. A few stations that are out at 20-30 miles also come in with 3 of 4 bars and look great. The same or better than my previous Time Warner signal.

I do have to adjust the antenna occasionally though, so I have been investigating other services, including mounting an outdoor multi-directional antenna. My ILEC offers an IPTV service called Plex and they have a $20/month package that carries all my local channels in HD. I have to pay Time Warner $50+ for that (home of free HD my ass) so I'm seriously considering signing up for it when it's available in my area.

Re: I dont know of anyone who uses an antenna.

Time-Warner has a tier called Broadcast Basic, which here costs about $17/month. It is a "lifeline" service, mandated by most franchising authorities. TWC does not like to advertise this tier, but will admit they have it if you threaten to call the FCC.

They offer a $9.99 Basic Tier here too but you don't get HD channels with that tier. You *MUST* have the Digital Tier and a Digital Converter box to access their HD content.

Re: I dont know of anyone who uses an antenna.

Here broadcast channels are sent clear QAM even on the $9/month basic tier.

And they are in HD, for those programs that are broadcast in HD.

You have to scan for them, e.g. NBC HD is 90-1 here.

Very interesting. I have a Clear QAM capable tuner and if they are sent that way for you, they are sent that way for me. (I'm in the Triad too)

So I should just be able to hook the coax into my tuner and let it scan for Clear QAM channels?

Have you tried? I get the locals in HD on my Broadcast Basic.

You are in Greensboro? I'd search elsewhere on BBR or Google for "Clear QAM Greensboro". Most TWC systems offer HD locals to cable ready subs with QAM capable receivers.

Re: I dont know of anyone who uses an antenna.

Hi guys
I did a google search for Clear QAM channels in Triad area, but nothing came back worth a flip. I was hoping I could get info on what QAM channels are available. I am getting some good ones, but I want to make sure I am getting all of them.

You're in luck, I subscribe to the ClearQAM channels. You mean on Time Warner correct?
