Re: ATT DSL South Texas randomly disconnecting then reconnecting

I don't think your Netopia has the hybrid diagnostic that those Speedstreams have. The Motorola 2210 issued in the SE area has a simplified version of the hybrid diagnostic (sort of a pass/no-pass version), but the 2210 modem for the rest of us may have that feature may be crippled out of the firmware or inaccessible.

My Rockwall AT&T Elite DSL has been doing similar (disconnecting/reconnecting) and I'm going through the Richardson routers. My CO is so close I could almost hit it with a rock.

I don't know much but this does not seem to look good. But I am getting 4+ Mbs even though the sales droids say I'm not close enough for. BTW yes the line length run data can be way way off.

Further development in diagnosing the problem:

I think that my NID POTS Splitter is BAD--causing the intermittent connection.

Last night I removed it from service and went direct (bare) DSL (no voice) and was having great speed with a rock-solid connection.

Since our upstream surge arrestor was burned out, it's quite possible that the splitter was damaged in some way as well.

I've ordered a new one to replace it and will report back after installation.
That's one of the downsides to nid/sni splitters when they burn they take your DSL with them. They are fantastic for repairing or working around wiring problems. However where you have a big filter that is a bit more resistive to problems, when they go out, you know it!

Well first thing you might want to do is define disconnect.

• are you wireless or wired when you get disconnected?

• when the disconnect happens does the DSL light go red?

• when disconnected does your POTS service go away?

Based on the stats you posted earlier I can't see why you would get disconnected unless you were working wireless, which would present a whole new realm of possiblities.

I got the same problem recently from 4-5 weeks ago and last night by defining disconnect and reconnect, it means the gateway actually restart itself for every 10 minutes or so last night when 1 computer is wired to the gateway and 2 laptop is wirelessly connected.

All 3 computer is just browsing the web without downloading anything or playing games.

The problem is getting really annoying this week

I am in the Houston area and have been having this same problem for quite some time. My connection will be perfect for weeks on end then all of a sudden will start dropping anywhere from every couple of minutes to several hours between drops. I have a dry loop (no pots) Elite service. I am on hold right now with AT&T dispatch to get a tech out for the 3rd time in a week. They do see a problem, get it to run clean, leave and within a few hours the issue is back. I have a 2Wire 2701-HB and when I go into \\192.168.x.x\management and select "DSL Diagnostics" the primary thing I see when the problem is going on is CRC errors.

In actuality this problem has been going on for well over a year for me. Unfortunately if I can't get it fixed i'm going to have to get cable internet which for me will be like going to the devil for water.

Another interesting point is they started rolling out UVerse in my area as well recently.

Im wireless (laptop) and wired (sprint airave). Yes the dsl and internet lights go away then come back, the wireless and ethernet lights stay green. Its happening more and more frequently. When it is disconnected, the phone still works (get a dial tone). I looked at my gateway stats and there are many DSL link retrains.

I would have a look at the detailed log
