Also, there seem to be about 8 different Starz channels, do we have access to all of them: STRZ-E, STRZ-W, STRZED, STRZEW etc. |

Yes, you have to have FiOS tv to watch any FiOS tv, including the free previews.
The digital adapter will display the SD channels available in a free preview. And yes, free previews of a movie package is typically for all the channels in that movie package.
(And if I recall correctly, the free previews are available in clear QAM, that is, they're not encrypted but I might be mis-remembering that...) |

matcarl is right, my questions were all technically unrelated, sorry for the confusion.
The thing is texastown didn't bother mentioning that this free preview was for Fios TV only, even though it is in the Fios TV section. And everyone else above didn't bother mentioning which provider they have. Some say that they couldn't see the free previews, and others said that they could.
If they have Comcast (which they didn't say) and they were not able to see the free preview, it would confuse some of the readers, including myself.
Bottom line, from June 5, 2009 (Friday) to June 7, 2009 (Sunday), all of the Starz and Encore channels are available for Free Preview for Fios TV subscribers. |

As this is a FIOS board I assumed that the info provided would apply to FIOS, why Comcast? I should have mentioned that it is in texas tho I figured my name would indicate that. But anyway, it's on in Texas. |

Yes, for the previous free preview periods, Verizon turned off the encryption for the preview SD and HD channels. That is how they make them available to all STBs. Verizon may be turning off the encryption on a VHO by VHO base which could be why not everyone has them in the clear yet. I have not done a QAM channel scan in a while as the TV I was using for that is connected to an antenna and was acting weird for QAM scans the last times I did it with that TV anyway (appeared to be a hardware problem, not with Fios). As of some months ago, the Starz HD channels were at the following QAM channels: 9 (189 Mhz): 2 - 842 Starz Edge HD, 847 Starz Comedy HD 10 (195): 2 - 845 Starz Kids & Family HD, ? 110 (711): 2 - 920 Cinemax HD (-614), 840 Starz HD |

nothing here in Edmonds, WA either. I was chatting with a Verizon Rep and he said that the problem was with the broadcast co (Starz) and not Verizon. Plus, he also mentioned that he couldn't find any notice of the free preview. |
