Netopia R910 and Verizon DSL

I have been working on an issue for someone regarding a Netopia R910 and Verizon DSL.
The Setup: Verizon DSL into building. Verizon Westell 7500 is Bridged (Dynamic Address from Verizon), WITH NO PPPoE, and plugged into the Netopia R910, and then branched out to the only 3 computers in the building.
The issue is: At random times, the Internet connection is lost on all of the computers. I cannot link anything to this. The reason for the Netopia is for the use of a VPN to the Corporate office. Only a telnet session is used to access the Corporate AS400.

I have had Verizon tech out to check things out, and like every time I have delt with an ISP, they automatically blame it on the product that is connected after their device. Get this, they told the guy on site that the network cable had to be no longer than 6 feet from the Netopia to the Computer! I could not believe this... I am by far no expert on the Netopia, but I know better than that. The Netopia has been looked at, and even sent to the Corporate office for an inspection, to find no errors.

Anyone have any ideas that I may have missed? Is there a way I can prove to Verizon that it is their issue without removing the Netopia?

The R910 is a pretty low-powered device, and doing a VPN takes a lot out of it. Next time things go south, log into the Netopia and look at the CPU utilization. If it's pegged, that could explain it.

I had to dump my R9100 (faster unit) because spam attacks filled up the connection table, and it killed the whole unit.

And I call BS on the six-foot cable.
