[Reception] More drop outs than usual?

Haas there been any changes with the service lately? It seems like in the past few weeks I am getting drop outs in area that I normally never had them. I have a 2008 Altima with XM built in, and going under a few trees normally would not cause the audio to go out. But lately it has been absolutely ridiculous.

I assume I am going crazy?

Nope, not just you. Its been happening to me even in clear, unobstructed areas for about the last week and a half. In fact I was online earlier looking for a bigger antenna than the one that shipped with the aftermarket kit I got for my car.

Same here. Both cars in our house equipped are dropping a lot where they never used to. One car has an aftermarket radio and one has it as a factory installed option.

Anyone heard anything?

Today was absolutely horrible, both on my car and my wifes car. It was borderline unusable.

It is my understanding that Sirius XM has done away with some of their terrestrial repeaters. I can no longer get a terrestrial signal where I live. I use to be able to put my XM boombox any where in my house and get a great signal, now it has to be right next to the window. The radio in my truck would never drop out under bridges, now it happens all the time. My dad, who lives 1500 miles away, has also noticed this, as we were discussing it the other day!

I've noticed this today in eastern Pennsylvania. Both my built in factory VW GTI radio and in the sportster replay in the wifes car. The sportster shows 2 bars in unobstructed areas, not the 3 it used to get. This means more dropouts as there's less signal to begin with.

Having the same issues here last couple of days. It's been bad enough that I've decided to cancel me Sirius account. Just got the bill for the new year and with the price increase and the crappy service lately it's just not worth it anymore.

Sirius radio in my Jeep
I get either great signal with little or few drop outs, or get lousy reception with lots of drop outs making it not worth listening to. At which point I switch to conventional radio.

The ironic thing is, I know the time of day when things will suck with Sirius.

Edit: At my home with a Sirius receiver and an stationary outside antennae, it doesn't make a difference though I do se the signal weaken at the same time my car gets shitty reception.

The receiver in my wife's Jeep has my old Sirius lifetime subscription on it, so we will keep that one.
My Altima came with XM, and I pay for the Nav Traffic also. The dilema here is that where I live I don't get much along the lines of local radio stations. Plus my daughter really likes XM Kids...

If it stays this way I will consider cancelling and just use that money for more songs on the iPhone.

I have experienced weak/no signals (Sirius) periodically, usually once every 1.5-2 months or so. This happens both in my truck and at home, where I have a home antenna mounted in open space high on the roof. The outage lasts at most a few hours and always clears on its own.

The rest of the time I get a strong signal with zero problems. Normally I might not even notice the drop-outs, but between work, commuting, and home, I often have my receiver on 12+ hours a day.

I consider the problem minor and I'm a very happy (albeit addicted) Sirius listener.

Just my $0.02.

While I have no real explanation for why this would be, I seem to notice the drop outs while driving east-west, but rarely/never going north/south. It was somewhat better today but still had 3 or 4 drop outs for no explainable reason. Hope they're working on it.

I've had a few drop outs the last couple of weeks - very brief ones.
It only happens when I'm stationary. I just attribute it to space junk between my antenna and the satellite.
There's certainly enough of it.

I meant to update this as I called in and asked about it. They did say they were trying new "signals" and that I should be patient. It has been about a month and it is the same, almost worst now. They tried to blame it as a "Nissan issue" but it is the same in my wife's jeep.

I may try to call again to get an update.

I am on the phone now, and the lady I am speaking with told me that there is nothing on record about issues with Nissans of course.
They said that trees can affect service (no kidding) and that a technical team will review it.

This is getting to be ridiculous.

Got a message from the technical team, no issues in your state, call the dealer as the radio may not be working.

Just great......

I'm still getting them, although it seems to not be as bad. It seems particularly bad during or after rain, when passing between or underneath trees. I think if I could find a larger antenna, it would help, but I can't seem to find one.

I know it's a hassle, but FWIW, I had a 2007 Maxima with Sirius built in, and the receiver failed in early 2008. Nissan replaced it free of charge. I came in one day, they diagnosed it. A week later the part arrived, and I went back for the install. Aside from some inconvienence, it was back to 100%.
