I am not sure it's a receiver issues as we see it in my wife's care also. I called the dealership and mentioned what was going on, and the service manager said his wife has all but stopped using her service due to the drop outs. |

I haven't noticed any dropouts (more than usual/predicted spots), so I don't get it. I am thinking that they may have removed some to save costs or something. I am just so frustrated because this started happening overnight. One day fine, next day not fine. Same with the other car that has Sirius in it, so I would tend to think the radios are not both dying at the exact same time. I have had to now pay extra to stream it to my iPhone. Thank god they fired up 3G in my town so I am covered almost all the way from my house in CT to Providence.
I have had Sirius for over about 6 years and XM for 1.5 years and never had a technical issue until this started. The first rep I spoke to mentioned changing of the signals and to be patient. There has not been another rep who said the same thing. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

| reply to ptrowski there used to be a web-site the had all the repeaters listed. it was an independent site so XM/Sirius didn't have control over it. the guy was just pulling FCC info and posting it. -- I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and i'm all outta bubblegum. |

1 edit | reply to ptrowski I've noticed this too in my factory Sirius radio. Sometimes I have the sunroof open and look up. There may be trees to the left and right of the road, but straight up it's clear right where it would line up with my antenna. Sometimes on back roads I drive more towards the middle of the road to catch that clearing from the trees on the sides. Doesn't always seem to work.
If I can see up to the sky, I figure the antenna should be able to.
I notice reception is worse on cloudy or rainy days. |

If I can see up to the sky, I figure the antenna should be able to. I notice reception is worse on cloudy or rainy days. EXACTLY. You hit the nail right on the head. Like I had said before, there are parts of my drive I know I am going to lose the signal, I am fine with that. But when there is a clear shot above me, trees maybe 50 feet on one side of the road and 30 feet on the other and the signal drops out again and again? It's just not right. But yet in Providence I can go into a parking garage and not lose audio.
Something changed, and the only time I had a rep mention something was on the first call I made. After that it's the same freaking story-"there are no outages in your area".
Doing some searching I found a few threads mentioning in May there were some XM repeaters that the FCC made them take down. I wonder if that has something to do with it as it was around the time our service started having issues.

| said by TheRul :Maybe they just used shotty antannas on the installs Some background again... My wife has Sirius in her 2007 Jeep Compass, factory install. My car is a 2008 Altima, XM factory install. Up until May, we had zero issues and I never had to call them for anything except an address change, etc. I have a lifetime sub for Sirius, used them for years.
Then almost overnight in May, the issues started on both cars. So unless both antennas went at exactly the same time, I would be hard pressed to blame the equipment. I tried called Nissan and the service manager said his wife was having the same issue. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

| reply to ptrowski I've noticed drop outs of late, but I thought that maybe it is the smoke/steam coming out of the fossil plant very close to here I live. If the wind is going the needed direction, a large, thick stream of smoke and steam crosses the path between my antenna and the satellite, but I am not certain of whether or not that is what affects my signal. | I would still lean more towards what ever this issue is rather than the steam.
During the winters here in Michigan I have seen my antenna for my home unit get covered in snow with a layer of ice on top, cloudy skies, with a snow storm going on. During those times I still get full signal.
Lately though, for me at least, I have seen much fewer drop outs than usual. -- "I like to refer to myself as an Adult Film Efficienato." - Stuart Bondek |

| reply to signmeuptoo Its actually gotten better for me, and I anticipate it will improve through the winter as the trees lose their leaves.
I doubt very much that steam or smoke cause any issue, it works fine on cloudy days and in the rain for me. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." Beyond AM. Beyond FM. XM |
