Re: WSAH switching to Retro TV July 1st.

Yes, that's what Gustavo told me as well. It's funny though that the sound is louder and audible on WSAH on my HD DVR but is lousy and inaudible on my SD STBs and digital adapter.

The audio is out of phase but a normal volume with my PC tuner card and using the rca or digital audio out of the HD and SD STB's.

On the coax out of STB's the audio is low and distorted.

Seems WSAH will use Retro TV's national lineup:

The audio seems decent, somewhat out of sync. The video keeps getting this red tint for a couple seconds every minute or so.

Nope. we have our own lineup... it should be up on the RTV site soon. It wasnt finalized until Tuesday. Thats just a placeholder.

OK, now this has confirmed its DEFINITELY a FiOS issue, a live sat feed cannot take on a "red tint". Nope, not happening... unh unh.

The audio is perfect leaving here, in sync and in phase. It arrives at AT&T 6th ave perfect. One small issue, you'll see it at the top of the hour. But should be gone tomorrow.

I have an ace in the hole I was reluctant to use, but some higher ups in both companies are good friends. I'll prevail on them to call in a favor or two.

Someone said that Verizon couldn't carry Retro TV, like some cable systems carry ION, because there was no national lineup.

But, if Verizon can't handle one station carrying it, the chances of them doing it wherever they offer FIOS TV might not work out.

I just read the Retro TV national lineup. I love crime dramas, and with Ironsides, Kojak, and It Takes A Thief, it makes me want it more. But, it's a wish list thing for now .

There are two things you can do. If you have troubles with the lineup, head to the RTV website at myretrotv.com and hit the contact links.

If you want to see more, get your feelings to me in a good old fashioned letter. Letters have to be retained for 2 years. WSAH-TV, 7 Wakeley Street, Seymour CT 06483.

I'm gathering up all the positive and "wish there were more" letters and forwarding them on to my upper management.

RetroTV is typically in mono (and offered as a subchannel by local OTA stations where it's offered at all). Here in Washington, DC, it's WJLA-TV/DT that offers RetroTV (subchannel 7-3).

Actually the network is full stereo, but the source material is often mono. BTSC stereo wasn't rolled out till the mid 80s so they never bothered to produce them in stereo, even though most playback formats had 2 channels starting with 1", beta and uMatic (1975ish). You'll notice many of the ads are stereo, the debt help one is definitely. I'm waiting for the later Knight Riders, Voyagers, etc. to see if they pass them in stereo.

Its offered wherever the station chooses to put it, there are many who are on the "main". There's no difference really except the number, the bitrate, audio etc can actually be BETTER than the main if setup that way. My .2 is the same rate as the .1 (9 mbps)

You should be able to receive WFMZ. They have a strong signal throughout most of the Philadelphia market. I receive it in Marlton, so I'm sure Bensalem and Mercer County will get it too.

My TiVo just recently got the listings for WFMZ-DT3 so I'm all set. The pq looks poor, and the RTV logo is annoying, but it's free - so one can't complain.

Out of curiosity, why isn't WSAH showing the national RTV lineup from 6-12? I like those shows much better than what WSAH is currently showing from 6-12. Who chose these programs, WSAH or RTN?

RTN does, like any network, we air what they give us.

I'm watching it in Atlanta. Audio is usually out of sync or distorted (or both), and the network digital video quality, even through QAM on cable, is absolutely horrid. I'd rather watch an SLP VHS videotape. The commercials, on the other hand, are much better quality.

I don't see what the problem is. WSAH comes over fine on Comcast. I also checked over-the-air. Not a single problem with the video, and the audio is actually better than it is on some of the New York City and CT "big 4" network affiliates...

Thanks... its FIOS being unable to... oh I wont go there.

As for Dave's lipsync issue, I'm seeing it too now, its variable, for me the shows are in sync and the commercials are way off. This is the encoding to the satellite. I'll be poking their engineer sometime this week about that.

I opted for very little processing, I even retired a perfectly good Orban 8182a in favor of an Aphex compellor. I wanted to bring out the superior dynamic range and frequency response of today's digital (be it over the air, or a AVS270 fiber link).

Comcast however, you havent noticed, is mono, left only in fact, but I'll be monomixing sometime this week. This is a leftover of the WSAH mono analog days.

The FIOS channel is not too bad. The main issue for me is that every few seconds the picture gets a flash of red tint, which is really annoying. The audio's dynamic range seems pretty short, but seems that is Retro TV's fault. Obviously, I would have liked to see RTV 24/7, but take what I can get at this point. Great to get Knight Rider, A-Team, and Rockford Files.

I'd love to see the A Team and Rockford Files, but RTN isn't available in Indiana.

After Farrah died, there was a Charlie's Angels marathon on WGN. Well, another man from Gary died, Karl Malden, and I haven't seen a Streets Of San Fransisco marathon, yet. But, I've seen the first season on DVD, and I'll get the others when they are out.

Still, RTN seens to have shows not seen anywhere else and not on DVD. But, maybe someday.....

Audio is leaving here, and arriving everywhere fine. It is now up to you, the viewer, to complain to FIOS loudly and bitterly.

I had another issue and decided to wake up a few Master Control rooms around the country this evening. Dish Network... spoke to "Bob" at Mount Pleasant, "dead on phase". DirecTV, "Cory" in LA, "in phase, left might be a bit high", and finally "Frank" at FIOS Jamaica Queens, "looks great buddy".

I have posted to my webspace the view from here, you will see our video looks clean (as well as a cellphone will allow), the Wohler audio amp "Avg" light is green, and the phase scope is showing it in phase (and to my surprise, the Alfred Hitchcock hour is in stereo!).
