Spam doesnt gobble up bandwidth, but it does eat up other network resources such as storage. it also consumes dollars in the form of calls to tech support when the customer complains about spam or is using outlook express and gets a virus from said spam.

on corporate systems spam consumes drive space on the mail servers. overall the damage from spam is far more then P2P of music and movies.
