Noah Vail posted : If you haven't done so already, check out signal quality from the carriers associated with your phones.

I've had Verizon, AT&T and Sprint within the last year. Of the 3, Sprint was the only one that gave me a usable signal at the 5 or 6 locations I visit most. All of them gave me good 3G service in most locations, just not at my most visited locations.

18 months ago I was set to get a blackberry until I got a hold of a pearl and a world edition and tried to type on both of them. That was the end of BBs for me. I support them for companies but I couldn't own one.

I finally settled on an AT&T Tilt. I liked it and their service. I only switched over to a Sprint Touch Pro, just because my company changed wireless providers.

It turned out to be a good move. The Pre looks interesting...please report back.

I tried one out this morning and I found it lived up to the reviews I have read online. Voice quality on calls was good. Web access was quick and easily switched between portrait & landscape mode. Videos & photos looked very sharp and the photo I took with the camera was very sharp. The keyboard is a little small, but usable unless you have very big hands. I paired my bluetooth headset with the Pre and that went very easily. You can zoom in and out using the same method as the iPhone by pinching your fingers together or apart on the touch screen. I also was able to play music; surf the web; and have the camera operational all at the same time, switching between them by sweeping a finger left or right on the touch screen.

The phone was lighter than an iPhone, but didn't to me feel cheap like some reviewers thought. And it easily fits in a pocket without weighing it down. The touchscreen does tend to pickup smudges quickly from oil on your fingers, but a quick swipe on a shirt or with a handkerchief clears it.

Overall, I thought it matches up nicely with the existing 3G iPhone. I'll wait to see what the new iPhone announces soon before I make up my mind.
--
My BLOG .. ..
ThrowDemsOut posted : I called my local Sprint Store and they will have Palm Pre's in stock to checkout Saturday Morning. I've read the reviews but want to see what it looks & feels like in person.

Then I'll wait until the new iPhone is announced in a few weeks before picking my next smartphone.

I let my 2 yr contract with Verizon expire without renewing and will probably end up going to either Sprint or AT&T for my next contract. The Sprint deal has a lower monthly cost with the "Everything Data 450 min" plan than the equivalent AT&T plan. And I know Sprint data coverage is good in the areas I frequent because my Kindle gets good 3G coverage in those areas.
--
My BLOG .. ..
