LEAFS_SUCK posted : Just an update!!! Still looking for something. Seems pretty hard to find. I got a job interview last week but it was for piece work for phone/cable install repair (Rogers). I really didn't think they were getting paid like that, no salary, from 0.80 cents to $60 per job. They told me at the interview that more then likely the first year would be pretty low as far as money goes, below 40k which is not much when you live in downtown Toronto.

LazMan posted : Some electrcians deal with fibre, mostly larger shops, and mostly as part of "other" work...

Really depends on the shop, for the rate... When I started, splicing fibre was almost an art, and the money was better. Now that the machines are so automated, it's almost (and I hate to say this) dropped to a semi-skilled job, and pulled the rate down with it. I would expect to start in the high teens (18-19 bucks an hour) and work up from there, probably topping out at the 28-32/hr range... But again, different shops are going to range widely.

Other skills and certifications, like confined space entry, fall arrest, etc, are going to help.

Good luck!

Laz
