[ADSL] Telephone Socket Doubler, Bad Wiring (Please help me rewi

Hello, I have just moved house and noticed that the wiring for one of the phone lines leading away from the master socket is dodgy. Half of the wires had been pulled out.

Could someone please tell me how to rewire this? It looks like your average doubler

The only difference is that it is supposed to have a cable coming out of is, which accepts four strands of wire.

Does anyone have any ideas? Colours: blue and white, white and blue, orange and white, white and orange.

Why not google on something obvious like "UK telephone wiring"

If it's as picture, I recomend you buy a new one. Cheaper & quicker than a repair

Already tried that, that's how I ended up here.

Because the wire is installed in the wall, so I just need to know the order of the wires to reattach it.

If none of the half a million articles that Google lists in response to that search string are of any use, then how do you expect a text-based reply on a forum to help??

Take a look - they even have colour pictures for the "hard of thinking"

Re: [ADSL] Telephone Socket Doubler, Bad Wiring (Please help me

1. Do you have a working master socket?
2. is the 'dodgy' wiring coming out of what was an extension socket?

if yes to both of those, unscrew the front of your master socket and have a look at the colours of the wires that are crimped into connectors 2, 3 and 5 of the faceplate. 2 and 5 carry the signals and 3 is the bell wire.

Then buy a replacement extension socket and install over the messed up one connecting the same colour cables respectively to the connectors in the extension socket.

You can buy extension sockets and the crimp tool for the cable terminations online or from BnQ, homebase, Maplin etc. You're after a secondary socket (»www.telephonesuk.co.uk/line_jacks.htm has some photos).

Else, if it is your master socket that is broken, you are not legally allowed to really replace that, well the BT side of it anyway, so you'll need to phone BT or Virgin etc (depending on your provider).
