Fios internet through DSL Extreme

I checked the website and I qualify for the fiber packages, since I can get FIOS. I am thinking of getting the 10/2 fiber package for $39.99 a month from DSLX. Do I have to have the fiber buried and have an ONT already? Will I get the Verizon Actiontec through them? Also, If I run a cat 6 cable myself, can the installer provision me for ethernet? Will they terminate the ends of the cat 6 cable and run it through the wall for me?

If you don't currently have fiber run to the house/building, they will run it during the install for you. If the wires are underground it will be run underground. If the wires are aerial, it will be run aerial to the house/building.

You are provided one of the Verizon routers at the time of the install for use with the service. They are currently using the Westell 9100 router in most areas but I believe still use the ActionTec in some. Depending on what they have at that time they will provide you. I have seen all Westells on the installs that I have followed.

The standard method for installing is using existing coax. A few of the business installs did go in with Ethernet though. You can request it at the time of the install but it is up to the technician on hand. They are only required to perform the standard installation though.

Thanks

Cool, thank you for responding. If they do the standard installation and use coax, can I switch to ethernet myself by following these instructions? »Verizon Online FiOS FAQ »Replacing the Actiontec (part 1): Coax to Ethernet

From recent posts in »Verizon Fiber Optics, the following seems to best describe your chances for getting a cat5 install:

•If you request a cat5 install from the ONT, and it makes more work for the installer, you are unlikely to the get cat5 install.
•If you are in an area where VZ uses contractors, you will not get a cat5 install.
•If your installer has had a bad day, kiss your request for a cat5 install goodbye.

•If you run the cat5 in advance, most installers will terminate it for you, since "the wire is already in place".
•If you have an inside ONT and it is a simple matter of running a cat5 patch cable from the ONT to the router, then it is not a problem.
•If you are getting a business install, cat5 is standard for a business install.

YMMV.

As for switching from coax to ethernet after the install, the FAQ has the steps on how to do it. However, I don't know the mechanics of how you would go about getting the provisioning for the ONT changed from coax to cat5. I presume that DSL Extreme would need to arrange that for you.

As for specific router, it depends on where you live. If you are in a former GTE area, you will get a Westell 9100EM. If you are in a former Bell Atlantic area, you will get an Actiontec MI424WR Rev. E (Next-Gen).

So a quick question here. I see DHCP listed, is it possible to get Fiber with static IPs?

We are offering static IPs to business locations at this time.

Thanks

Are there any plans to offer static IPs in the future?

Hi Samson2,

We already offer static IP plans but you have to sign up as a business.

No offense, but I'm not interested in paying double for the exact same service just because it's a "business" line. Thanks anyway.

How widespread is the Fiber offer at the moment in california and what are the plans regarding the network expansion?

I would be interested, but unfortunately its not offered in my area.

And will customers be informed via email if a new package is available in their area?
