WillyPremium join:2000-09-24 USA kudos:1 | [DVR] Remote Control Issue I did a search and found quite a few posts and problems related to remotes, but the ones I found were months old and older.
I just got Fios TV and so far no complaints except, occasionally for the DVR remote control. I have 1 DVR and two other receivers in the Motorola QIP 7100 series and this only happens with the DVR.
After the DVR has been off for an extended period of time, the remote won't turn the box on.
The lights on the remote light up but nothing on the DVR. I can stand right next to the unit and do this, none of the remotes can turn on the DVR.
I have to press the power button on the unit, and then the unit works fine. All the controls and buttons work, no problem at all.
Anyone else have this problem? Any fix for this? Thanks |

I've found the remotes that came with our 7200 series boxes to be less than intuitive in that regard. But I've never had a problem turning the STB on using that method, or using our Harmony 880 universal remote. |

Yes, I made sure I pressed the STB button and made sure that it lit up when I pressed the power button. |

BiggieBAol Sucks join:2002-01-21 Flanders, NJ | reply to Willy I had a similar a problem with my 7216 and a non-responsive remote, just like you, and even after replacing the remote it still would not work correctly. Verizon sent me a IR Extender cable and since then ALL the problems I had with my remote not responding went away and it's a joy to use the DVR. Below is the email from Verizon Direct forum they sent me. This also fixed a problem that the remote would not work unless my TV was off.
"Thank you for your patience as well as for the update you provided. We are sending you out an IR Extender cable which was specifically designed to resolve issues where there is IR interference between the remote control and the STB. You should receive this cable by the end of the week. I will try to provide you tracking information once it becomes available. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns." |

WillyPremium join:2000-09-24 USA kudos:1 | reply to Willy I discovered something strange. It seems if the TV is switched on first, the cable box is unresponsive.
I need to turn the TV off, then the cable box on, and then the TV back on.
Does that make any sense to anybody? |
|
 | Just throwing this out here but how do you have your TV connected to the STB? maybe there's something weird going on if you are using the HDMI connection? |

TelcoguruPremium join:2005-08-22 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to Willy I believe that some of the 7200 & 7216 before a certain date have trouble with there IR module. If you can get the IR Extender cable from Verizon that should fix the problem. |

WillyPremium join:2000-09-24 USA kudos:1 | Thanks. That's what I'm going to do. I just got a new base unit for the stereo and TV components and the receiver was going to be in a more accessible location.
I wanted to see if that made a difference first, it didn't. |

EMC26 join:2007-08-21 Tampa, FL | In the interim, check your tv picture settings & see if it's set to "normal". Sometimes the tv displays are set to "brilliant" or "store" to attract attention on the showroom floor (brighter picture, etc).
Long story short - a juiced up TV display setting may contribute to blocking the IR signal from remote to stb. |

 | reply to Willy If you haven't already got the IR extender, try reprogramming the remote so that the STB turns on before the TV. Or vice versa. If you did already get it, and it works, than forget it. Maybe for someone else to try.
STB + OK 9-7-7 STB TV OK
In that order, for the STB, and then the TV to turn on. Or...
STB + OK 9-7-7 TV STB OK
But I'm going to bet that the first one will work for you. |

Verizon sent me a IR Extender cable Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns." How did you arrange that? I called Verizon and spoke to several different people that said they don't supply it. One guy said go to Radio Shack, I did, and they don't have it either.
I went to Best Buys and picked up what looked like the right thing but didn't work. A SmartPath IRE-1. IR Emitter with Mini-Plug, made by SpeakerCraft.
Do you have an email address that might help me? Thanks |

It appears BiggieB got it in response to a discussion about his IR remote problem in VZDirect forum. Check out the forum rules, and it's ok to provide account info because the posts there can only be read by the author and VZ reps.
Good luck. |

I can literally put the remote inches away from the STB and get no response, yet when everything is on and running, the remote works fine from across the room if I point it in the general direction of the cable box.
I did follow ricosuave 's advice and programmed the units to come on at the same time. That seems to work fine.. |
